Help with '95 Celica Rally Car (ST205)

Something is wrong with this car and I cant figure it out. I can regularly put in around 3'19" laps on Tahiti Maze with most of my rally cars, but I cant get any better than a 3'22" with the Celica, despite it having the highest power/weight ratio out of my rally cars. It handles alright (not great), but it seems to drop RPM's while drifting around the hairpins and loses speed. This makes it extremely difficult to drift smoothly through the turns. I tried screwing with the gearing, rear diff, and VCD but nothing seemed to make it any faster.

Any help would be much appreciated.

P.S. Im only looking for settings for the stock car, no power upgrades or such.

Soften the car all round to get more grip and a more predictable handling. I know this sounds odd as you would like to slide it through the corners but more grip equals more speed... the problem with dropping the RPM is due to either a low torque figure (no idea about that, can't remember) or an overly tall gear. Shorten the gear in which you take these corners and it should get better.

The VCD is best applied at around 30 to 40 percent of power to the front, the front tyres will pull the car out of corners.

Thanks for the tips, Ill give em a try. One question though: with the problem Im having, do you recommend a softer suspension in the front or the rear, or should I set it equal? My gut says to go stiffer in the back to make the rear end slide easier, but Im not quite sure.

Softer in the front if you want oversteer so you're right in your idea. The point is, sliding isn't always the fastest way - it may feel faster but don't let the feeling betray you. Try both options out before making any conclusions. 👍

I long ago came to the conclusion that drifting in the dirt and snow IS the fastest way around the tracks, through my experiences with other rally cars. The Celica rally car just isnt that great at the drifting though.

After more experimenting, Im convinced that the solution lies in the LSD settings and Ive managed to break into the 3'21" range just barely. Problem is that I am absolutely clueless when it comes to LSD tuning on pavement, let alone dirt and snow.
