Help with Career Premium Perfomance Road to America

So this is a 4 lap race where it rain after lap 2 I believe. Ive been using my Lotus Emira with full downforce anticipating the rain. I havent played Forza since 3. I thought if you had race tires, that it would auto fit you with Wets during career mode races?
It cant possibly be using wet tires because regardless of how conservative I am when it rains, im on ice? What am I missing to win this one? Im in first starting at 12 grid when the rain hits, but, cant maintain.

You can't really trust the auto-tire selection thing sometimes, it's always good to double check which tire you want to be on. If the starting race condition is dry, it will auto-fit you with a slick tire, and if it starts wet it will auto-fit a wet.

If you start on slicks and it starts raining, then pit and get wet tires. Or, given the very short length of the race, just start on wet tires so you don't need to pit.

Or just run a sport or lower tire compound as those work in both dry and wet just fine.
