help with connection problems

Ok, I just got my school laptop and already I have a problem. When I plug in the Ethernet chord (modem and router are working fine) and try to connect to the internet it gives me the "internet explorer cannot display web page" message and when I click diagnose the connection problem it say something like "can't communicate with web proxy".

So, for what I am understanding, you have wireless.
Well, let’s see if this works.
Open Internet Explorer, go to Tools > Internet Options > and click on the Connections Gap/Separation. Make sure the first option is checked. It may say never connect or something.
