Help with PS3 YLOD

Can someone give me some advice on how to transfer out my save data and stuff for my YLOD PS3? Or any form of fix for it? Especially with my stealth cars and my GT5 save data trapped inside.

It's the 60GB launch model i have, considering to upgrade to a slim, but all my saves, replays etc stuck inside my fat 60GB PS3... :nervous:

Any help would be greatly appreciated :)
 
YLOD happens when Processors over-heat. Your data is fine, buy a new PS3 and replace the HDD, then copy what you want from your 60GB HDD to your new PS3. I recommend you copy everything from your 60GB to your new one, via backup. And you'll have everything back in no time! Good luck. :)

Try this, it works. I have fixed 5 PS3s now using this method, and they all still work. You have got to be brave though, and follow the instructions.

When I got a YLOD I put it in my freezer for 10 miniuted no problems since, running for 6 years now.

How do I back up my dead ps3 right now? Especially with it being broken and all.
And is it possible to copy the stuff through a comp or something?

Like I said your data is safe in the HDD just get a new PS3. and copy your old HDD files to your new one and your good to go.
 
The oven method does work. I've done it 3 separate times and have pics to prove it. Just be careful during dis-assembly. 1st time I did mine i left the small ribbon cable from the power/eject button on the board and ruined it. Ordered a new cable on Ebay and after that it was good to go.

I used instructions found on Youtube and can post those if you like as well.
 
You live in Singapore so it shouldn't be hard to find someone who can fix it for you. Just check online. You can get someone to fix it for you by fixing the processor or you can fix it yourself. Then once it's fixed, you can backup ALL your data onto a separate external hard drive. You can do that from the main PS3 XMB menu somewhere in the settings. Get a new PS3 and transfer all your data. Once everything works fine, sell your old PS3 or keep it if you want it to break again in a year.

No - it's not ok. You've never had this happen to you have you? EVERY PS3 HD is encoded so only THAT PS3 can read the data. If you pull it out and put it in another PS3 - it WON'T work until you format it. Sorry but this is just wrong advice.

To the OP:
I've had this happen. If you didn't back-up the data prior to USB another HD, anything; and you can't get the YLOD PS3 to start back up and quickly copy the data - your game is lost. I was lucky to have made a back-up to a USB drive. I still lost my FO:3, ME2, and a number of other saves when my 20GB died last year :yuck:
 
haha yeah for a very quick fix, attack the processors on the motherboard with a hairdryer for about 5 or 10 minutes. Then that'll buy you enough running time on the PS3 for you to copy all your stuff to a USB stick or something. Or if you have PS+, it will be saved online if you allowed that to happen. PS+ is a life saver.

That's what I did with my old ps3. And luckily I backed up to a flash drive and copied to my slim
 
Oh so the hard drive would reformat when you put it in another PS3? That's sad :(

Oh well if all else fails I still at least have a backup I made from a month ago, so it's not too bad. :D

I got YLOD on my 60 GB too, it's kinda difficult fixing it but overall, fun(in my opinion) at the same time fixing it. You just need thermal paste, heat gun and a few screw drivers. I fixed mine myself actually, only disadvantage is it's going to heat up like in a minute but overall it'll still play. Just back up your stuff before it does YLOD again, my still living for 3 months

Checked qisahn.com at Far East Shopping Centre, they said they're doing reflow for YLOD ps3 for over S$100... Seriously expensive Maybe I'll just do the hair dryer trick, don't have much to lose anyways
 
Go buy a data transfer case $18.00 at any computer store.Take the old hard drive out,put it into the transfer case and copy the files to the new PS3.

Erm has this actually worked for you? Just want to make sure first sorry, because i'm afraid the old hard drive wouldn't be in FAT32, and the new PS3 won't be able to detect it :scared:
 
The old hard drive can only be read by the ps3 that wrote it. So even if you could get the info off the hdd, the new ps3 couldn't read the data.

I have fixed 4 or 5 fat ylod, every one I've tried has worked.

Find a good YouTube video to disassemble it down to the motherboard, remove old paste off of 2 main chips, heat chips with a heatgun, install new thermal paste, clean case and put it all back together. Should work long enough to save your data to a USB stick. I use my fat sparingly but it's still working over a year after ylod. I have a slim now too.

k now i understand, so the old PS3 needs to be revived in order to recover the data from its hard drive... Thanks man, finally got it :dopey:
