Help With Remapping the Fanatec Carrera Wheel?

Hi all,
It started when I had a MB change in my PC.
Almost everything on my Carrera Wheel kept on working fine, except that the buttons were somehow incorrectly remapped. I.e. when I press the paddle shifters my computer seems to think I'm pressing the select and start buttons and when I press the start and select buttons my computer thinks I'm pressing two of the eight functional buttons.
The "properties" setter doesn't offer anything like remapping. I've tried several versions of the driver and none of them solved the problem, nor did firmware updates.
So can anyone who's had a hardware change (especially MB) shed some lights on this?

I even redid the firmware (rolled back to rev 678), didn't work either...
And another interesting thing I noticed, after uninstalling the driver, the "Game controller settings" in Control Panel says it's correctly mapped. E.g. the paddles are detected as Buttons 9 and 10 like they were before the MB change. However as soon as I restart/reconnect the wheel, it reverts back to the wrong mappings again, i.e. the paddles are once again detected as Buttons 5 and 6.
Weird, totally weird...

Thanks
Sam

What happens if you put it into ps3 mode while on the pc?

oh, I haven't tried that!

I've had a look through all the settings and now realise it is possible to edit the action map file. I tried this but the game would not run afterwards. i suspect this may be because I'm running it on Steam?

To fix this problem, I ran the 'verify' function on Steam which identified one missing file (I think this may have found the action map file which I had previously edited). Steam 'repaired' the file and the game runs OK once again.

I've also realised that the X button (mapped to Car Staus) which I thought wasn't working, doesn't work in Time Trial mode (hope this is normal). The other two buttons which I was hoping to remap are the Paddle downshift (this currently 'selects' an item) and the upper left button (of four) on the left-hand side of the wheel (PWTS) - this functions as a 'back' button.

I wanted to change these to mirror the button functions on the Xbox 360 controller (A - select, B - Back) but I don't think this is possible by editing the action map file.

I've decided to leave well alone and just get used to the differences.

That said, I'm still interested to learn if it is possible to have the same 'select' and 'back' buttons as on the Xbox 360 layout but, of course, the mapping for these functions are implemented before the game is fully loaded leading me to believe there is either a separate file appertaining to these functions or that they are possibly hard-coded and cannot be changed.
