Help...with sick smell

Hi I'm new to this forum and so far this place rocks.
I'll cut to the chase though...I have a problem.
A couple of nights ago few of my friends got wasted at my place.
And one threw up on my carpet floor.
Now, usually I just use baking soda and coffee grain to get the smell off.
But for some reason, the smell didn't go away this time.
And it really smells.
So does anyone have any other suggestions.
Thanks
And by the way, I do not have a carpet cleaner and I'm out of money right now.

I find that the spray-on vacuum-off carpet cleaners work fine when my indescretions are excessive enough that I mistake the floor for that big round porcelain thing.

Good ol elbow grease will rid your room of the smell, plus some washing liquid and a hard brush. And next time have a bucket ready!

I thank everyone for the response.
I think my friend has some pet odor remover and I know I have some vinegar and cold water. So I'll just try everyones idea until it smells right again.

. Vomit Stain and Odor Removal from Upholstery
To remove vomit odor from upholstered furniture, first scrape up as much of the vomit as possible with an absorbent cloth. Next, you have two options: 1) Baking soda works well to eliminate surface (but not deeply penetrated) odors. Dampen the area with clean water and then sprinkle baking soda over it. Rub the baking soda into the soiled area and let dry; brush or vacuum to remove the dry material.

2) The newest technology uses peroxide and detergents to penetrate the soiled area and deactivate the odor. Simply spray a product such as Bio-OX Citrus Concentrate on the soiled area, then allow it to penetrate for approximately five minutes. Using a clean white absorbent cloth, blot the area, pressing down firmly (do not rub) for 30 seconds. Repeat this blotting process until the area is dry. If the odor persists, repeat the process.

You can do that, or do what I did when my oldest kid threw up on our carpet several years ago. Clean the spot as best as you can. Wait for it to dry completely. Make a paste of warm water and baking soda. Apply it to the area and rub it in well. Sprinkle fresh dry baking soda on top of the paste, Wait about 7 to 10 hours for it to dry. Vacuum it up, scraping any paste left on the stain. Repeat about four or five times or until the odor is gone. Febreeze doesn't work, trust me. It only covers up the odor for a day or so. Good luck.

To completely get the "stain" and odor removed you will need to steam clean the carpet. Or even a wet/dry vac. If you use the baking soda or other methods they will eliminate the "stain" from the top of the carpet that you can see and even the fibers. If you lifted the carpet you would see that it is soiled underneath and still the odor and bacteria are there.
