Help with sliding

Hello

I have a problem where I keep sliding all over the road. This happens when accelerating a lot of the time.

I use racing hard tyres and only use abs and traction assists. Also after 6 laps my tyres are completely ruined!!


Any advice on settings etc?

It is particularly bad when driving online.
 
Easiest fix: Don't hammer the throttle. Be smooth, particularly if using a powerful car.

If you're cornering hard and the tyres are squealing, you're going to burn through them quicker. Try to ease off the throttle a bit in the turns; try to listen to when the tyres are starting to squeal. The louder they get, the faster you're burning 'em up.
 
Which car? Six laps of which track? Are you using a controller? Which buttons for braking and accelerating?

Does your car in real life has ABS/TC/ASM/Active Steering? If so, they're probably there for a very good reason. Use them.

Of the five driving assistance features, skid recovery is the only one that doesn't exist in real life and is only there to help players gradually get used to each car's handling. Once you know how your car feels, disable it. If you're still having issues, use all of them.
 
Lots and lots of aids. Then you should be fine.
 
Does your car have a limited slip differential? That can be a problem. You should have listed the car, the track, and any modifications. It's hard to help without that.
 
If you're using a DualShock3, learn to use the right stick for acceleration instead of the X button. It will help you control your throttle.

Or at least R2 for acceleration and L2 for brakes :)

This works well. Still getting the hang of L2 for the brakes (just odd finger placement) but R2 lets you modulate the throttle pretty good. I map my gas and brake to both L2 & R2 and square and x.

This, it applies well to every car, on every track, be smoother with your throttle input, and don't mash your throttle.

Its been happening with a number of cars lately. Lambo SV, Nissan Xanavi GT-R '08, Dodge ACR, Nissan Z34.

Each race online the tyres have been getting destroyed and I struggle to keep the car driving smooth.

This is for a race league therefore I can only use ABS and traction control. All the others are not an option. I have recently put ABS up to 10 and traction to about 7 for every car. Could this be contributing to the problem?

I have been using a controller yes. And I have been using X for acceleration which sounds like it could be a problem. I will change to R2 for the future.

Are racing hards the right tyres to be using? They should be the most durable but they have been getting ripped to pieces recently.

Apologies for not posting more information at the time. I was pretty p1ssed off last night!

Besides the throttle control deal, try to remember: It's a game. Yes, it's a game with other people instead of AI, and treat them right, but it is suposed to be fun. Don't get worked up over things. If anything, it will make you lose concentration and overthrottle (and oversteer, and late brake, ect.) which just leads to more frustration and all that. Easier said then done sometimes, I know, but try to keep it in mind next time.

I know but it so frustrating not being at the front challenging when I am sliding about back in 3rd or something. I actually finished 2nd out of 6th in the first series of the race league over 5 weeks with equal number of wins. The last couple of weeks I have been all over the place though and I wasn't sure what I was doing wrong.. :(

When I'm too lazy to set up my wheel and just want to check something out real quick, I typically use my DS3 without messing around with settings (TCS+0, ABS+1, no other assists, with L-Stick steer, R-Stick throttle / brake). It's not too, too difficult to moderate wheelspin exiting corners with a DS3, but it does take practice on some of the faster cars (I'm looking at you, Speed 12!).

ABS+10 should be fine, but it feels better when set a lot less. TCS+7 can seriously rob you of power exiting corners, as well as prevent you from using the throttle to help rotate your car through slow and medium speed corners. Try using less or none.

When racing online, use the softest tires allowed. That could solve a few of your issues.

If you're tearing up your tires, it could be from overly aggressive inputs with steering, braking, and throttle. Smooth = fast. If your tire graphic shows your front tires going red when entering a corner, and the rears going red when exiting the corner, you're pushing a bit harder than you need to. Brake earlier and ease the throttle coming out of a corner until you're more or less straight -- then drop the hammer.

I'm probably forgetting something, but ah well. Practice makes better. Good luck!
