I remeber a long time ago on another forum that there was a feedback feature. so for every post, other members could give a positive, or negative feedback rating. for example... if member a asked a question, and member b posted some rude remark, somebody, or many, would give him or her a negative feedback. or if the reply was especially helpful, above and beyond the answer nesecery, he or she would receive positive feedback from other members. if your score goes below a cirtain point, you will be warned or banned.

dunno, just an idea, what do you guys think?

This is the second time I heard about the "feedback" system in 2 days, and while it sounds interesting, I don't know if it's really needed. I think people generally behaves well on gtplanet, and veteran users and the moderators do real good job keeping the trouble makers in check, IMO.

Person who suggested the feedback system in the other thread, I belive, suggested that spammers(don't look at me) earns too many reps, strictly on the high post count. Way I see it, while number of posts will have effect on the status of the user a little bit, I think respected users are recognized regardless of the post count. There are plenty of people on gtplanet who's earned my repsect, who has low post count and there are plenty of members with high post count, who's still considered "green" IMO.

Finally, I think Jordan, Duke and the henchmen are quite busy, just maintaining and operating this site. I don't know if feedback feature will be worth the trouble. Just my take on it. :)

Its something similiar to UCP's old Reputation points deal. People would give you negative or positive points.

However, it was asbused somewhat due to people giving negative points cause they didn't like the name of another user, or one user bragged.

However, I'd rather let Jordan give some deep thinking about this and the consequences of using something similiar to a Rep. System. or this.

However, banning someone because they're points are down would be bad. Again the points could be down because of stupid reasons.

Let Jordan do some extra hard thinking on this.

thx for the replys, I really just wanted to see what ppl would think of the idea, and you are right, this forum doesn't really need somthing, but it is nice to know how ppl would respond to the idea. thx again

Sorry but I dont like your idea. It seems useless. I'm mean, I could give a person a negative point or whatever it is all the time so he can get banned? No, never ;)

It's built into Vbulletin. We could have both thread and user ratings. Howver, Jordan has previously decided not to implement these functions, due to the possibility for abuse and political misuse (ie, rating all your friends 5 stars, etc.). While I know he considered it for a while, in the end it came down to simply having the potential to create more trouble than it solved.

I don't make the decisions, though (nor would I want to), so I can't predict what Jordan has in mind for GTP7 when he decides to release it.

Yes I agree.

I could give a member 5 stars because I like him/her, but all they say is "rofl" and "omfg", which means he/she really doesn't deserve a 5, but I could give someone 1 star because "I just hate him/her", but they really do contribute to the site so they really deserve 5 stars.

I will admit, I've always been fairly hard-lined about the user ratings system. I just don't like it for a lot of reasons, but mainly it separates and classifies the community in a clear-cut way and encourages prejudiced attitudes.

However, the recent discussions in the Site Feedback forum have got me thinking about new and different ways this feature could be integrated. On a less extreme, larger scale, some users could earn a special "respected user" badge after a steady, long-term run of positive ratings. By not revealing the number of votes a user has or needs to have to acquire this status, I could prevent abuse of the system. Users who didn't have the badge would want it, but I think they would be less prone to cheat or feel inadequate if they knew it was a difficult goal to achieve. This would also, in turn, give even more respect for the status.

But I'll need to think on it a bit more.

That's cool Jordan.

I think a thread rating feature may be helpful to rank those threads worthy of listing in stickies and other situations.
