So, fellow GTP'ers, is anyone else watching Heroes? As with any new show, you never know what route they are going to take. It might be the next LOST, or it could go the way of Threshold.

For those of you not watching but might be influenced to start, you have the usual mix of characters with different abilities, personal problems and bad guys.

hro_1003_030.jpg

Matt - LAPD cop who can hear peoples thoughts, is having marriage problems and is suspected of being a serial killer due to knowledge gained when his abilities kicked in.

hro_1003_037.jpg

Hiro - Japanese office worker who can stop time and teleport himself anywhere on Earth.

hro_1001_017.jpg

Claire - Indestructible cheerleader with more isses than a normal highschooler.

hro_1001_063.jpg

Niki - single mom and Internet stripper with a split personality

hro_1001_060.jpg

Mohinder - No powers, but his father, who was murdered, was researching people he thought had powers. Now he's picking up where dad left off.

Picture to be added later, time and interest permitting, as it is now time for lunch:
Isaac - Heroin addict artist. His paintings predict the future.

Nathan - Flying politician. Brother of Peter.

Peter - Brother of Nathan. He can fly when he's close to his brother and can paint the future when close to Isaac. I wonder what he'll do when to whole group is together...

In it's first 3 weeks, it's snagged 13.5 million viewers and is scheduled for a full 22 episodes this season. I won't go any further than that for now. Is anyone else hooked like I am?

Yeah, I'm hooked. They just need to bring storylines together quickly or the audience will lose interest. NBC should not repeat the Surface debacle.

Anyway, on to Peter. Read what you typed about him. He can fly when he is near a guy that can fly and he can paint prophetically when he is near a guy that can paint prophetically.

My prediction here is that his real power is not flying or prophetic paintings, it is the ability to mimic the powers of others.

Think of it as a combination of Leech and Rogue. For those who don't read comic books: Rogue can absorb another mutants power and life force by touching them. Unfortunately this has a side effect of harming/possibly killing the mutant and leaving herself with psychic echoes of the mutant. Leech can remove/negate a mutant's powers by being in their presence. Over time he learned to control it, but in the movie (X3) it wasn't voluntary.

I think Peter involuntarily is able to take on their powers by being in their presence. He doesn't steal it or harm them.

That said, he may be all Rogue and need to touch them, as he didn't fly until his flying brother grabbed his hand to catch him. I may need to see if he touched Isaac before finishing the painting of Claire. But if it doesn't require physical contact imagine just how badass he will be once they all get together. Or maybe he has to chose between powers in thsi instance. Still cool nonetheless.

By the way, is Niki dead? In all honesty, I could do with a few more Ali Larter smoking up the screen scenes. And while Mohinder's neighbor (forget her name) appears to be a spy it wouldn't hurt her to smoke up the screen some too.

In all my favorite character is Hiro. I don't know why, but the spastic hyper "I'm a Hero" personality is just too great to not like. Out of the bunch he is the only true innocent (Ando is an instigator) and has a very Peter Parker feel to him.

I agree. The reason I listed only those 2 is they are the only 2 people he's been around so far. If we are correct, with who we've seen so far, he'll be a flying, teleporting, time stopping, future-painting, regenerating, phasing, split personality bad ass. His Kryptonite: he needs to be around them to have any powers at all.

Remember, though, that after the hospital-"Peter, you jumped off of a building"-suicide-incident when he was back up on the roof and Nathan came out, he was standing on the ledge. After being talked away from the ledge, he was 3 feet off of the ground. Nathan wasn't touching him them. I think he just needs to be close, not touching. What would suck is if when Peter has their ability they don't.

Isn't that half the point of watching the show?

Again, I agree. He is entertaining to watch and takes his "job" very seriously. That and he has a sword.

I love this show. But I agree with Foolkiller they need to move the plot along. I also like Hiro the best.

Good point. Touching might just have to be a one-time thing, so it was there until he touched Isaac or something, but I think I am reaching there in an attempt to keep all possibilities open.

If he actually stole or borrowed their ability that would definitely throw a wrench in the works, but if he can combine powers and learns to control it then it would make a great strategic tool. Of course, his "I am meant for something" and "don't need you anymore" attitude would kill him, because he's a superhero that needs others to be one. A genetic sidekick. How much would that suck?

Isn't that half the point of watching the show?
She needs to give up all this heroing business and get back to work in the garage. :sly:

Not just any sword. The handle appears to be that of a katana. I wonder if he takes Ninja or Samurai training somewhere along the way. It would explain the black outfit he was wearing.

I was reading a TV Guide in my doctor's waiting room yesterday (flu shot) and they said that the November 28th episode would show how they got their powers. It's supposed to be their big sweeps episode.

Now, when is Desmond joining the show? Sorry, I'm in the middle of my Lost write-up.

According to the episode, all parties involved just called it a sword. I was just following suit. And yes, it is most definitely a katana. Or at least the handle of one.

Believe me when I say that if Desmond shows up on Heroes that I will never watch it again. :grumpy:

Watch it turn out to be a William Wallace in Braveheart style broadsword.

"So you need heroin and paint to predict the future, brotha? Try an electromagnetic implosion. It'll knock the socks right off of ya, but it works."

It knocks off more than just your socks, dude.

OK, so Micah now has some kind of crazy powers and knows all about Niki/Jessica.

I predict that before all is said and done Mohinder will turn out to have powers and Horn Rimmed Glasses man/Claire's father will have something cool too.

If anything causes this show to jump the shark it will be that everyone seems to have powers and they don't seem so special.

My prediction here is that Claire's father is actually tagging them (the mark on Matt's shoulder) so that he can follow them and protect them. That is why he adopted Claire in the first place and is hiding her from her birth parents. I guess I should add that the people she met were not really her birth parents, something I am guessing because of the way her father talked to the guy when he was leaving.

Now can we save the goram cheerleader and move this story along a bit?

Oh, and I am guessing that something to do with the eclipse is what activated all their powers at once. Otherwise the O in the logo makes absolutely no friggin sense.

OK, I have two thoughts on last night's episode:

1) Claire's dad is not trying to stop/hurt them, but is doing something to either track them and/or help them control their abilities. He is aware of Sylar and his overall plot, but ios only telling Isaac the minor details he needs. He is not inherently evil, but the forced heroin thing has just been out of desperation to save his daughter. Eden has some kind of crazy controlling power, but I'm not sure what yet. It is definitely less menacing than the Haitian. Perhaps it is super-seductive abilities? She gets all sweet an innocent and then the guys get hooked on her and do whatever she wants.

2-A) Hiro created a time rift and is stuck in the rift until it catches up with now, if it does. If he had saved the girl's life then Ando wouldn't know that she ever died and the police wouldn't still be scouring the murder scene. Hiro's current place in space-time is parallel to what we see. Think Back to the Future 2 or the Butterfly Effect. You can't change history and then go back to where you were in the present because it no longer exists for you.

2-B) Hiro changed the past and walks in with the girl because they were on a date and only Ando and Hiro are aware of the space-time change.

I prefer 2-A. It forces Hiro to face the consequences of misusing his powers.

Niki - single mom and Internet stripper with a split personality

Seems like the odd one out here!

What can she bring to the group?

...Don't answer that!

I'll look into it when/if it airs over here.

Think of it more like the Incredible Hulk (or She Hulk) had a split personality. She doesn't turn green but she suddenly has the ability to kick serious butt.

The only problem is that she isn't in control, her alter-ego is.

I don't know of you get the same Sci-Fi channel that we get but it has been airing an encore on Fridays.

Honestly, the networks need to start airing shows within the same week worldwide when possible. It could prove profitable as a show not popular in the US may be popular in Europe/Australia and vice versa.

It's not yet arrived on UK TV viewing shores, as yet - but anything with Ali Larter in has to be worth watching IMO 👍

This was the second episode I watched. I like the show. I wish I started watching from the beginning, so I'm a little clueless to who's whom and what's what.

Sylar?

Haitian?

Atomic Guy?

Who killed the waitress? I know it was the guy in the coffee shop with the hat and black coat, but who the hell is he? Why's he killing "Heroes?"

On the down side - (a) I am a week behind.

On the plus sides - (a) It is still on my TiVo (b) It sat there long enough that my wife is watching it now, too. She's not as big a fan of Heroes as she is of LOST, but hey, who is, right?

@ Solid: I'll see what I can do to fill in the gaps for you after I watch the episode from Monday, unless FK gets to it first.

Watch Sci-Fi for the occasional Heroes marathon. They did that with Surface last year and have done one for Heroes already.

Bad guy. We have yet to meet him. This week we saw more than we have at all. He appears to have multiple powers as the only other time we saw him was when Matt, working with the FBI lady, caught up to him and Sylar was about to kill the FBI agent by psychically making her shoot herself when Mat unloaded his entire gun into him. Sylar falls down, but then he gets up and flies away. This week we saw him move a cup telekinetically. So, we know he has psychic, telekinetic, regenerative, and flying abilities.

Bald black guy seen working with Claire's father/Mr. Bennett/Horn Rimmed Glasses (HRG). He appears to have some kind of psychic powers as he made Matt pass out so they could abduct him (where he got the mark on his shoulder/neck) and do some testing. They then let Matt go. This seems to be their MO. We still don't know what this is all about. Matt also could not read anything from the Haitian's mind. It was completely silent.

When the football quarterback tried to rape claire and then she exacted revenge by nearly killing him in a car accident her father found out and had the Haitian wipe his memory completely; he doesn't even remember his name now.

Atomic Guy?
We met him last week. I have a feeling that he will wind up being a side villain, kind of like Rhino or Mysterio are to Spiderman. All we know is that he radiates and he has little control over it, causing it to get out of control when he gets emotional. All we know is that he nearly burned down his house and then gave his wife cancer before he was arrested, which is when we met him.

Who killed the waitress? I know it was the guy in the coffee shop with the hat and black coat, but who the hell is he? Why's he killing "Heroes?"
Sylar. The only other Hero death we have seen was Isaac's, when Hiro visited New York 5 weeks in the future by accident, which is when we also learned that Nathan wins his election and we see the nuclear explosion in New York.

Sylar's MO is to rip the brains out of other heroes. I don't know why, but I think it might be linked to his multiple powers. I know some ancient civilizations believed that by eating the brains of their enemies they gained their strength. Perhaps there is a connection?

Well, Lost is on hiatus so you have plenty of time to catch up.

@ Solid: I'll see what I can do to fill in the gaps for you after I watch the episode from Monday, unless FK gets to it first.
I get up much earlier than you. :D

Wow, thanks for the update on the show, FoolKiller! 👍

This Sylar sounds like one badass dude. I can't wait for the other Heroes to face him.

Well, the slice your head open just by pointing at you seems pretty badass to me. Too bad only Peter and Claire faced him.

Does anyone else feel like we were lied to about everyone being brought together by this?

Then, Peter can absorb powers, but he can't absorb Sylar's? WTF? Dude, if I knew I absorbed other people's powers and some crazy dude was throwing crap at me telekinetically I would go off. I'd answer locker doors with the whole locker or even the wall. Heck, just slice him up with your Wiimote finger power.

I digress.

Sylar has been captured and Eden does have crazy seductive controlling psychic abilities. I'll let her dominate my mind any day. :sly: But that did show that Sylar's abilities do not make him more powerful, he just has knowledge that allows him to surprise the heroes. When someone else with knowledge of what is going on comes up he is impotent.

And thank God Mohinder's crazy meandering has ended. Now he can bring them together and lead them. Possibly with the backing and help of Claire's father.

My predictions:

Peter is arrested for Jackie's murder and it ruin's Nathan's campaign. After fighting with her dad about it Claire comes out and says that he saved her life and the real villain got away (as far as she knows). Peter suddenly is the hero, SImone believes him and Nathan continues to use him. The Petrelli hero story boosts Nathan's campaign and he wins. Yay!

Jessica/Nikki does not kill DL because he knew to watch for her and while teh bullet hits him manages to phase out enough to save himself and only take a minor wound, but it is enough for Jessica to take Micah. Or Nikki takes back over when she sees Micah and decides to help DL and explain what all is happening. Honestly, this storyline is annoying me. Ali Larter is hot seems to be the main point.

Hiro goes back in time, creates a rift, and catches back up eventually. Or, he has never willingly gone into the future before and isn't quite sure how to come back. When he does get back he speaks proper English. This is next week's show, which is also when we are supposed to find out how they got their powers. I have a feeling this will be as weak of an answer as everyone brought together for the cheerleader was. I predict that the answers are it is a genetic mutation, nothing else (over used), and then Hiro just wealks back into the diner and says hello to Ando. Oh and there will be some drawn out Mohinder storyline.

I know how about Eden tell Mohinder who se really is and take him to confront Sylar. 💡 No, that's to easy.

Oh well, the mighty Sylar battle has proven to be weak.

After last night's episode it seems that Sylar's powers that had seen thus far have been gain by whatever he does with the people he's killed brains. His original power seems to be that he "see" broken things whether people or machines. Overall this episode was a little dissappointing. I really hope the heroes meet up & they move the plot along.

Yeah, it seems that before he snapped Sylar wasn't all that impressive with his powers. They were about as impressive as Charlie's ability.

I agree that they need to start meeting up because a solid story would be great instead of a couple one week and a couple of others the next week. Surface pulled this last year and it got cancelled in February because the audience got tired of it.

Well, someone dies next week. Characters that are not important to the story, or who's deaths might move it along:

DL - Jessica has taken over full-time because of him. His purpose has been served....although, I like his shadow-walking power.
Matt - Sylar is caught and the FBI would have no use for him....but he may be needed in helping to catch the Nuclear guy.
Ando - Does he serve any purpose?
Eden - She helped catch Sylar, but if he kills her and takes her power...
Niki/Jessica - Does it matter? She is a Lifetime superhero movie. End it now or get her back to work in the garage. She helps get Nathan blackmailed and that is all that's needed of her. From here on it has been pointless. Micah is the real key to her story.

Anyone else have a guess?

Speaking of Micah: is anyone else disturbed that Sylar's original ability is similar to his?

Storyline aside, we now have two characters who are just good at fixing things. Could someone please explain to the writers that Forge was the weakest X-Men character ever? If we are ripping off the X-Men we should at least give Claire some claws. :trouble:

Maybe they need to get rid of Niki/Jessica and DL and Micah. I don't really see the point of their storyline. Outside of her being with Nathan what is that storyline adding to the show. I agree two Forge like characters is two too many.

Honestly, I think it is all about Micah and he plays a major role in the future. It sounds just cliche enough for TV execs to love it.

I would love it if they pulled a Lost and had him disappear for nearly two whole seasons. Little kids just muddle up these stories.

Hmm, it seems interesting. I'll watch an episode to see if I like it.
Do you get Sci-Fi in Brazil?

If so, you are in luck. They are running a Heroes marathon tomorrow night at 6:00 PM Eastern time. It will be the first six episodes.

They also re-air the current week's episode on Fridays at 7:00 PM.

If you can catch that you will have only missed out on three episodes, which will probably be aired later.

Otherwise you may have to download.

NBC's Website also has a weekly comic, which details a back/side story of one of the characters to help you better understand who they are. They also have the most recent episode available for download.

Of course, after this week it will be a winter break of sorts during the holidays and unless they have a bunch of Christmas specials lined up you should be able to catch reruns. Or there is always summer reruns.

OK, I just did any non US resident and any US residents that haven't watched any of the show a huge favor. I googled it and here is a site offering to download and discuss the episode.

Who's your favorite serialized scifi/mystery fan?

Nah, over here we got Fox, WB and Sony channels that broadcast most of the American shows. If it's successful over there it will probably show on one of these channels in a few months.

I don't have cable anymore though, so my option is the internet.

I just got done watching all the previous episodes this morning. I recorded them from the SciFi channel Heroes marathon. Now I know who everybody is, and what's going on, but I see some characters are still shrouded in mystery. Like the bald black guy who mutes the powers of other Heroes.

Good show, but the last episode wasn't anything special. They build up a great suspense to "save the cheerleader" and that entire event was boring. They hyped it too much.

I had a buddy who loved this show and convinced me to give a try... That was just before the Sci-fi marathon. :dopey:
Now I'm loving the show.
Just one question, the last episode of this season comes on this monday for us Americans right? :nervous:
I can't wait to see what happens.

What's so suprising about this show in my opinion is the fact that it came from NBC. This is the first time I've been excited about a new show in so long I can't remember and to see it as an NBC product...
I'm just amazed.
Network television has just been reborn for me. :D

Yeah, same here. They also have My Name Is Earl and 30 Rock going for them, too. Amazing turnaround for NBC.

I watched the pilot so far and I'm getting the other nine episodes. Let's see how it goes.

The Haitian. He also seems to be able to make them pass out. I love how people who have come into contact with him just know he's Haitian. Do Haitian's have a physical trait that I am unaware of?

Yeah, last episode was supposed to be the heroes coming together to save the cheerleader. One guy showed up. I was telling my wife last night that this show would be even better if they made the show half as suspensful as the ads make it out to be.

Just one question, the last episode of this season comes on this monday for us Americans right? :nervous:

It is the last episode of the "fall season." I'm not quite sure when we started distinguishing fall and spring seasons, but it is because reality TV doesn't have reruns and shows like 24 can't break their continuity. So now everything becomes fall and spring seasons (even though they both count as season 1). Heroes will be back "in the new year" as the ads say. I am guessing January or February, as that is the custom after the holiday break to slide in all the holiday specials and then awards shows in January and February.

What's so suprising about this show in my opinion is the fact that it came from NBC.
They've been trying to get a good serialized drama together but keep struggling. I think they finally nailed it.

Network television has just been reborn for me. :D
Have you tried Lost? Even if you don't like Lost, just remember that it is what has spawned this latest trend in serialized scifi/suspense dramas.

Yeah, same here. They also have My Name Is Earl and 30 Rock going for them, too. Amazing turnaround for NBC.
Wait, you forgot The Office and Scrubs (thank God it's back).

I tried watching 30 Rock for the first time last night and I wasn't impressed. I will give it a few more episodes, but it was too dry for me. I prefer the straight delivery that is just off-the-wall the way Scrubs and The Office can do.
