New technology being tested by Nissan means handsets would be detected by an in-car warning system. The Japanese firm hopes the kit will reduce the chance of road accidents by using global positioning data to pinpoint the location of passers-by.

Isn't this old news?

Oh, and why don't you start up a topic dedicated to all of your news-ticker-like posts. What could you possibly expect us to answer this with, except for an "ok." or another one-word response?

I don't understand.

What is this technology and what does it do?

Apparently a GPS system inside the car detect people's cellphones (handsets) when they are GPS enabled. I guess it beeps at you to let you know people are around. That could definitely be annoying if you're driving through a parking lot or whatever.
