i think online play for the ps2 will be pretty cool. the first games to support online play will be Navy Socom (looks cool), final fantasy XI (these games take to long, i dont play em much), and others. the potential advantages of online play are great. besides online racing for GT4, you could download new tracks, cars, etc. Or for a game like Madden NFL, you could download updated rosters.
however, no one is really paying attention to the potential dangers of online play. the initial cost of online play wont be too bad. i have no problem shelling out 50 bucks for a new game, and probably 50 bucks for the hard drive & network stuff. the problem is, all of these games will require you to pay a monthly subscription. and im pretty sure you are not paying a subscription directly to sony to play all your games. rather, you will be paying multiple monthly fees for each game you have.
in addition, they probably wont just let u download every new track, car, and update. you will probably have to pay for each of these new cars and tracks (gt4) or updated rosters & stadiums (madden), etc.
am i the only one who thinks they are gonna be hitting us where it hurts (wallet). yes, games will be more interactive, but the price will be exponentially greater.
