I've now got XP Home and I've worked out how to hide tray icons. But when I do that, I get this annoying tooltip that popup every time I start windows saying that there are hidden icons and press the little arrow button to reveal them. Can I hide this tooltip so I don't get it anymore?

Do you mean Balloon Tips? If you open TweakUI(If you dont have this program, get it, its free from Microsoft.) and click on "Taskbar" there should be an option "Enable Balloon Tips" Uncheck it and hit Apply and its gone forever. Is that what you are talking about? I'm not sure.

Well look what I found when going through one of my PC mags:

Q. Is there a way to turn off the tip balloons that display over Start menu items and in Windows Explorer? They often get in the way.

A. Yes, you can, but it involves you editing the resigtry.
1. Click Start > Run, type regedit and click OK to open the Registry Editor.
2. Navigate to the key HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced.
3. In the right-hand rane, double-click the key ShowInfoTip and set its value to 0, then close the Registry Editor.

You'll need to log off and on again for the change to take effect. You can always re-enable the tip balloons by resetting the same key to a value of 1.
