I've noticed for a long time now, that all of the TV's in my house have this reallllly annoying high-pitch buzzing sound. I know it's the TV because even when the reciever's off the sound comes out. Plus, the sound comes out when the TV is muted. The only time the buz doesn't sound is when the TV is between channels(the split second when you're changing from one channel to the next(e.g. 5 to 6, 6 to 7, etc). This is the same for all of my TV's. It even makes the buz when on the Video1 and Video 2, even if there's nothing plugged into those inputs. I've also noticed that the pitch gets higher when you switch from TV to Vid1, and higher yet from Vid1 to Vid2.

Does anybody else notice this? And is this universal for ALL TV's? Including plasma, HDTV, EDTV, Flatscreen, etc?

All CRT televisions make a high-pitched ring when they are on. Some more than others. The "muted" quality of the audio may be normal too - even an inexpensive receiver and speakers will better the sound quality of a television radically.

No, the sound is coming from the TV unit, not any speakers or anything. Even when the reciever is off the ring exists

Its the high voltage section of the power supply your hearing. This power supply usually supplies high voltage to the flyback of the chassis, usually 20-50,000 volts. From the flyback a wire connects to the top of the picture tube to which a picture is usually displayed.
You will notice this sound more as the tv, monitor or whatever starts to get old.
Hope this answers it just a bit better.

Its pretty much any crt display.
Some car amplifiers have these high switching transistors which you can hear too. Ive worked on them and have heard them. Sounds kinda cool.
