High speed overriding collision detection?

So I fell deliberately on a tire wall, head on, at a speed of 300 km/h. Looking at the replay I saw the front of the car momentarily appear at the other side of the tire wall. Does that happen often or was it the great speed that was too much for the collision detection to act on time?
