Highlander is a film I have heard so much about, I love the sound of the story and my dad is always raving about it being his faviroute film despite not having it on dvd or video.

So my question is, what are your (GTP's) views on Highlander 1 and the other 4 films in the series. Are they worth buying or even watching?

Highlander is a brilliant film.

Everything else to do with the series is mince.

Yeah the first one was great, the others not so great. But the first is well worth the watch.

The first one was complete cornballs, too, at points, but it was well-made, and the story was good,.. but it was a great film. Terrific Queen soundtrack, too.

The rest were complete manure... even the second one, which still had Sean Connery. You might want to watch the second one, just for him, but the first one is the only one that matters.

Haha, yeah it is corny at times. Still a good watch, I actually bought it on DVD awhile ago. I always liked the story, I definitely recommend a viewing. 👍

Wonder what the Video Game will be like, I am hoping it's good.

I'd agree with much of this. The first is a cult now, and is a fair story, from start to end. The rest are meh.

See, I preferred the TV series (until Duncan killed Richie) over the movies.
I did think the second movie (with the shield around the earth) was total dreck.
Even Sean Connery was in too deep to truly "save" that one.

Highlander 2 retcons the first Highlander film (they're all aliens!) and is then itself retconned. Or possibly just plainly ignored.

Good film, its a bit of a classic, but its not a five star movie. Defiantly worth a watch.

You know, before you posted this, I wasn't aware that there was actually a director's cut for 2. I'd watched 3, and always assumed that the events in 3 and in the subsequent TV-based movies occured before the events in 2.... I wasn't aware that they purposely ignored 2 completely. but reading over the synopses of the alternate versions, they still all sound like complete dreck.

Bought the film yesterday (£2.50!) watched it straight away and loved it, fantastic film.

Thanks for the advice everyone!

Highlander is a great film, although it is looking very 80's now and Christopher/Christophe Lambert has always been a wooden actor. It's a shame they ruined it a bit with poor sequels.
