Just came across this and could not find a thread on this yet:

Hispano-Suiza

essentially a rebodied aluminum, magnesium and carbon fiber Audi R8 V10 5.2 FSI, only they've plugged two electric-superchargers into the intake manifold. As a result, power is up through the roof, improving upon the R8 V10's 525 hp by 225 ponies for a total of 750 horsepower. As you may have guessed, performance is also way up, with 60 mph happening in 3.3 seconds (up from 4.5 in the R8) and a top speed of 211 miles per hour (196 mph in the Audi), propelling the new 3,505-lb Hispano Suiza squarely into hypercar territory.

Seems after the other Spanish supercar, they are really moving things there:

Edit 02 April 2010: went to a car museum and found an older version (I do not see the relationship):

I was going to say... if it isn't panelled in wood, no thanks...

It's not panelled in wood.

No thanks.

For that much money, you think they'd do something better than putting gimmicky e-chargers (which are only good for short bursts of power) on an R8 and giving it a whale tail and a snout.

Not that it's terrible looking... but... I really don't know. :indiff:

At least the Spano GTA is a car built from scratch bar the engine, this is as you say just a re-bodied Audi so it's not really all that exciting, and the price is crazy.

Front end boat, mid section R8, rear end Camaro?

This--------------------------------------------------->Spano. The name Hispano-Suiza alone makes this epic.

Pah. Needs an aircraft-derived V12 instead of being based on that...eeewdi...

From what I got the price is about 5 times the price of the Audi R8.

I still think that a package Audi R8 V10 + Aston Martin V12 Vantage + Corvette ZR1 + Ferrari 458 Italia, beats 1 Hispano-Suiza and it would not be more expensive.

But on the other hand creating new dreams on tradition. 👍

Like I said, first thought. That first pic looked like it had a similar window to the Camaro.

Now it's boat + R8 + three cubic yards of angry + Noble styling.

It's like they drew their inspiration from a shark.

That's exactly what crossed my mind. I don't think its particularly bad looking, but maybe a little bit "Hot Wheels" inspired? And I hate when "supercars" come out and they are just a rebodied car.

Electric superchargers...have those ever been used effectively?

@Thread title: You do know that Hispano-Suiza isnt a car, but a manufacturer right?

Correct, but I did not see a specific name for the model at this moment.
Not clear if they want to make a big thing out of the brand (which seems to have stopped producing since very long), so maybe a unique model, no need to name.

Production is scheduled to begin in Germany this summer with deliveries soon after, and only about 20 will be made, the company says.
between 20 and 25 of their new cars per year

Spanish, made in Germany.

Slightly better view, clearly rendered see background:

Agree that it is not an immediate win on looks.

But I'm not 100% convinced on the looks of the Maserati Granturismo:

Although would love to have one.

Don't see how that's a better view, as it's a rendering. The top picture looks much better.

And this angle exposes the biggest flaw in the design... you can see the front half of the R8 greenhouse sticking out there.

At least with the 9ff (which I don't like, either)... they actually re-did the entire car from top to bottom... including chopping the roof for better aero. Maybe there was a philosophy of not needing to fix what ain't broke, but if other companies can make absolutely bespoke cars for less than 1/10th the price, then there's something wrong here....

It's not even like they need that extra two-thirds of a million for the performance. An E-charger system doesn't cost that much... not unless they've rebuilt the entire engine and drivetrain to cope.

What's odd about this one is that, at first, I thought of this:

Qvale Mangusta - History's Most Forgotten "Supercar"

man this thing is hideous. It's like when someone tried to revive the name Isotta Fraschini and came up with... eh...

dah,a rebodied Audi A4

Why is it that every ressurected historic luxury brands ( except maybe Maybach ) turn out to be mid-engined supercars?

Bugatti, Spyker and now this Hispano-Suiza, not saying they couldn't be but i would find it more logical they would have evolved like similar contemporaries like Rolls-Royce, Bentley and, well, Maybach ( although better looking than the current Maybach perhaps ).

Vince_Fiero, i disagree with you on the Maserati GranTurismo, i was convinced the minute i saw it, best looking Maser in years and much better looking than anything Ferrari currently offers in my opinion. ;)

I like the look of the car, the lines in the body are kind of terminator style space age, it looks quite a aggressive which is always a good look for a car but at the same time can go bad in its favor if it does not have the power to back up the aggressive looks.

Yeah I don't know what the design team where thinking when they made this one...perhaps they where drunk? So sad, for someone to have the funding, initiative and team to build a Supercar, only to have it look so terrible!:(
The Company CEO needs to FIRE all his design team, they have failed him miserably.

It seems that some of the new trends go back to the "Carrossiers", building on an existing chassis.

Hispano-Suiza
Aston Martin Cygnet
And collaborations like:
Fiat 500/Ford Ka,
Toyota Aygo/Peugeot 107s/Citroen C1s....

=============================

Just came across this old Hispano-Suiza, I'd rather see a revival of this one then the new car of this thread.
