Historic Car Focus: Better or Worse Than GT2?

Before I begin this topic, I would like to congratulate Jarno Trulli for getting his first ever F1 Grand Prix victory, and another good job to Jensen Button at Monaco. Congratulations to Renault for the victory, and another good finish for BAR Honda.

GT4 will focus on historically-significant cars and celebrate the history of the automobile. The inclusion of such cars will mean that the GT fan will be able to race history if they so choose. GT4 looks to bring much more to the table than GT2 in terms of older cars. So answer me this. Do you think GT4's influence on historic cars will be more interesting or less interesting? I'll start with some ideas you can think about.

When it comes to classic cars, think about these:
- classic car races
- " " " that feature one manufacturer (for example, an all-Ford race from Model T to GT40)
- special meetings and gatherings to owners of classic cars
- being able to drive or race classics and get a feel for the history of the machine

For now, I'm racing a Gulf GT40 in Gran Turismo 2. And one more thing, I apologize for something. You CAN buy a Datsun 240Z in the used car lot. No need to unlock.
 
As a fan of older cars (mostly 80's and 70's) I frankly cannot bloody wait. I also have a thing for the older Lancer Evolutions, MR2s, Skylines and Celicas... You name it.

So you'll be sure to see me online hanging it tough with a rusty old red first gen RX-7 in a pack of kids and their newfangled R34 GTR Nur specs, NSX-Rs and Evo VIIIs.
 
I'm not really a big fan of old cars. But I belive it will be more interesting with old cars.
 
I can't wait for the older cars; American, Japanese, European, the more of them the better I say.

In particular I can't wait for the Renault Alpine A110 and 5 Turbo.

Ario, let me tell you. When I first played Gran Turismo 2, even I didn't get into old cars. Like, I hated to race a 1990 RX-7 and never had a chance to own any pieces of shinier, newer muscle. I also once thought the old Minis were glorified... for no apparent reason. It took me a little time, but nowadays, I've gotten accustomed to WHY these cars were classics and not just calling them classics. And as I said in other threads, I thought the Delta S4 in GT2 was ugly, but the beautiful thing about it was its lovely handling. I recently got one in Gran Turismo 3, and I love the handling. I can't guarantee this, but I hope Gran Turismo 4 will help you understand the history of the automobile and stars of the past, all in an effort to appreciate the shiny, newer cars of today. So, check out cars from GT2 and GT3 that aren't new. You'll learn to appreciate them. And don't forget. I've started a GT game with an RX-7 Savanna. Since then, mostly shiny cars, big-money race cars, the whole shebang. So, I hope the car history thing will change your mind. You can start with the beautiful Fairlady Z of 1971.
 
I hope they have the Old Second hand celica from the 80s from GT2 which I started off with in that game and actually owned a similar model at the time.

Ps old Cars were a handfull compared to todays cars(they weighed loads, had poor suspension and little brakes), and were also somehow more satisfying to drive. I especially loved my old Mk1 Escort mexico for thrashing round the country side with the old Big bore exhaust roar and twin 40 induction note.

Well, I do'nt really mind old cars, I think it's nice. I am not the biggest fan and my interest in older cars is small. But if it is like you say, My interest in older cars will probably raise. Can't wait till the game comes out. The first thing I'll try out will be the Fairlady Z if it is in GT4. Looking forward to try and see how it is. I have never actually seen the Fairlady Z, but a quick search in google will probably change that. :D

Looks like an Austin Healey, but it could be one of many cars including a classic Ferrari.
 
hm.. nice... Do you know if the Austin Healey is going to be in GT4?

Don't you think its more so you can enjoy driving the cars from a time when the emphasis wasn't on safety and fuel economy, but was on the driving experience? Like driving a 454 1970 chevelle that is still faster than most cars on the road today.

The first car I brought in GT2 was the challanger & in GT4 its going to be another muscle car.

John, there was no Lancia Delta S4 in GT3, you're thinking of the Delta HF integrale correct?

To answer you're question, I'm more excited about the classic cars than I am about the new ones! The older cars with the looser suspensions really show off the physics model better. Watching those cars roll on their suspensions through the turns and fight for grip is a blast. Hopefully my first car can be the '49 Beetle! I'm not to sure about a car from 1886 that can only do 10mph, however. That could get boring.

Checked it, the Austin Healey 3000 has been seen seen and been photographed and tested by Sony/Polypony Digital and may or may not be in GT4. Taken from the masterlist by The359
 
Thats the best place to look if you want to know if a cars been seen tested or in any screen shots.
 
yeah. Wish some cars from SEAT could come on the list...
 
No sign of the 1970 charger daytona. oh well, maybe it'll pop in later.
 
I don't like old cars. I favor anything 1990+. The Trueno is the only exception, as it was produced it 1986.
 
I'd like most cars to be between the years 1975-2000 I think :)

I really hope theres plenty of non-Japanese used cars.
 
I loved the old cars in GT2. My favorite was the Toyota 2000. I loved that car ever since I saw it in the James Bond movie You Only Live Twice. I hope it makes into the final copy of GT4.

Why would Kaz put older cars into the game? To give us a chance to see, and experience, what great race cars came before the ones we have now. You might not like that, but I do.

I hope so too. I hated the fact GT2 had no American or European used cars. I always thought there was at least one non Japanese used car, but I was wrong.
I hope Kaz will correct the mistake of adding only Japanese used cars to a GT title.
 
Solid Lifters, I'm handing you loads of respect because you like the Toyota 2000GT. I'm still trying to buy the machine in the game after finding out you can buy the Datsun in the Used Car lot. I'm trying to get one in red or blue, but the 2000GT, I swear... I thought it was something British. The 2000GT, is as I've said, "is a damsel in distress, looking for a sweet prince to save her from despair." It looks like the 2000GT is in trouble again. I think she wants a drive. I think she wants to see the world from her beautiful and elegant appearance. My goodness. She's draped in a beautiful outfit. My goodness. Who would have thought that the Toyota Supra may have not been born without the Celica of the 1970s (if my Japanese car history serves me well). I absolutely love this car.

I also hope I can learn more about Japan's car history. Ever seen that vintage Honda on Amalfi? I'd love to race that thing. And call me crazy, but I think that car is kind of an ancestor of the Honda S2000 of today.
 
I'll post this in a thread in the "Cars in General" category, but let me tell you something. If you are a game company and you want to celebrate the history of the automobile and neglect the machine from 1886, your efforts are worthless. I found a Mercedes-Benz catalog featuring the world's first automobile. The first one came in January 29th, 1886 (meaning absolutely none of us were born) from Karl Benz. So I hope the focus will be a good one.

And as some trivia, I've done the math. This is May 2004, and the autmobile was introduced in 1886. So we are celebrating 118 years of the automobile. Makes you appreciate how GT4 wants to go back in time and make learning fun, but not overdo it to a crappy, cheesy game. After all, you'll be RACING these machines. In a lesser kiddy game, you just learn about it so you can do it for an essay.

I'm really looking forward to racing the old bangers - the old Lotus', and the historic Japanese cars, brilliant.

I would like to ask what is worse. Being able to buy classic American / European cars from the new car dealer and being able to buy them whenever you want to, or having them in a seperate used car section and only being purchasable at pre set days as was the case with some of the Japenese classics in GT2?

If it is the latter case we will have hundreds of questions asking when can I buy so and so car. Or if it is the former there will be people complaining about no used cars for Europe or America.
 
UncleHarry, I'm going to be honest with you. Why didn't any of the other car companies have used cars? So what, you can purchase a "brand new" Dodge Challenger or Chevy Sting Ray in any color you so choose? You can purchase a "brand new" Aston Martin DB6? So I agree with you, Harry. Classic cars for all who have them. You can buy them all, whether the Subaru 360 or the Toyota 2000GT, any used car is fair game.
