Round2 - Portland Historic Races - Infineon SP

Sears Point (Sportscar course - the longer one)

- 28 laps - an enduro!
- minimum tire wear (change in options)
- difficulty setting of 5 for the Alfa, Nissan and BMW level 4 for the others
- deadline - Sunday Oct 30th 12midnight GMT

I've altered the difficulty settings after running a test last night - it should mean we all get some 'opposition' for this race, rather than either leaving the A.I. for dead or visa versa.

You should all be setting the correct settings for your tyres at the original screen rather than changing them in the 'quick set-up' screen before the race. Obviously when you pit to change tyres during the race you must select the same compound that you started on.

The first round had some greatly differing times - can everyone ensure that they are using the correct settings posted for their cars - including No driver aids - from my original post (link below)

Is there any reason for the 28 laps? How many laps do they run in the real life events? Just curious.
 
Originally the races lasted for hours - The 'Historic' races tend to last around 10 laps - in my experience, historic races last no longer than an hour for 1 driver races.

This 'enduro' should fall under the hour mark (near enough).

Just fiished the race. Unfortunately didn't have any time for practice. Ran the race cold...no idea relative to pit strategy or anything...actually hadn't driven this car with these setting since the last event. Despite that it went pretty well.

Very exciting race. I finished 3rd close to the 2nd place car, a Corvette Grand Sport...about 24.5s back of 1st, a RUF 3400S. Went mostly smoothly, late in the race I picked up a 10s penalty for tapping the Corvette, without that I probably would've finished 2nd...if I'd only been patient.

In the 1st pit sequence she (Corvette) opened up a strong lead. But of course she stayed out too long. About 3 laps after her pit I was on her but tapped her going into the tight right just after T1. I had 10 seconds of "Time Out" to think about how I should "do unto others" and then it was back hard at it...but I couldn't catch her...after that her tires warmed up and I never really had another shot. She must've made a mistake though because with about 2 laps to go suddenly she was much closer...after her pit I was always able to maintain distant (but not continuous)visual contact. Inexplicably I closed to where I could always see her on the track....maybe her cell phone rang and she lost concentration.

My quickest lap was a 1'50.081.

Loved this race...after the AMC is over I may retry it just to see if I can get 2nd...and maybe even 1st...with less than 1s per lap improvement I could take the RUF!

Using a two stop strategy made tire management critical, but I managed to stay clean through the entire race. No penalties and other the an off through the s corners and an almost big off as the last image shows, things were uneventful, which is a good thing I'd say.

I only work 'till 1 tomorrow, so I will run it then, unless I am doing nothing better tonight.
 
I just submitted my times. I managed to get through the race with two stops. I stopped on lap nine with rather orange tyres and stretched the next stint to ten laps because I didn't want to have to do the last lap on red tyres. As it turned out it wouldn't have mattered because I won by about 26 seconds. My quickest lap was 1m50.836s but I couldn't get that kind of time consistently. It's going to be interesting to see if any of the smaller cars got through on one or even no stops.

Just as a sidenote, I was at the Australian Muscle Car Masters today at Eastern Creek Raceway. The day included the final round of the Historic Touring Car Series and had some famous touring cars on display including Bob Jane's ZL-1 '69 Camaro and Allan Moffat's '69 Trans-Am Mustang, both of which were destined for the Trans-Am series before being purchased by Jane and Moffat and raced in the Australian Touring Car Championship.
 
I must've done something wrong. I only needed to pit once. But I still got beat by the computer cars. You guys (Schrodes, RedlinFox) pitted twice but still won the race? Did you guys use difficulty 4? What about the computer driver tires? Did you have them on S2s (sports Medium) too? I never really payed attention...my car runs in this series with a -10% HP. Are your cars' HP similarly reduced? I'm pretty sure we all run these cars on S2s?

Schrodes - you won your by 26 secs....I lost mine by 24 secs...that's a 50 sec differential but our quickest lap times were similar...I wonder what gives?
 
I don't know what gives. Everyone was on S2's, difficulty was on 4 and the Camaro runs with -8% hp. The opposition also pitted twice but they pitted later than me. It was looking like it was going to be a good race to the finish. I think we had four laps left and I was around six seconds behind the WRX, then he pitted and came back out in second just in front of the Monaro. I'm not sure how many times the lower placed cars pitted.
 
I just re-ran the race -- I know it doesn't count but the curiousity was eatin' me up. This time I finished 10.082 ahead of the chick in the Vette and 3.620 ahead of the person in the pinkish 3400S. Collected a 123 A-spec points. I pitted once and so did everybody else (except I think the superbird pitted twice)...the 3400s somewhere about lap 20. I maintained about a 3s lead on the 3400S during the 1st run. The 3400S came out of the pits just ahead of me. Got by without too much trouble...practiced a little of that patience I needed the first go-around. Opened up about a 9s lead and then on laps 27 & 28 it dropped quickly to the final margin of 3.620. No penalties. My time was better by 12.873 over the submitted time (so without that 10s penalty the first time I would've been real close to my original time -- you're still moving while the penalty is assessed so my guess it's really maybe a 6 or 7 net penalty). Best lap was 1'50.200. The first time it looked like I needed about 24s to beat the 3400S but only got about 13s but won anyway. Obviously the "practice" helped...this time I did restart the race probably three times in the 1st lap once after about 4 laps...it felt like I had gotten around the 3400S too easily so I wanted to make sure I hadn't forgotten to adjust the HP down 10%. My first attempt I didn't restart...just in case anyone was curious.

Once again a very entertaining race 👍 . With one more lap the 3400S would've given me all I could handle and probably would've taken me as 14 laps seemed to be absolute limit for turning competitive laps on the S2s. They were orange and fading fast...not sure if they would go red on 15 or 16.

You folks that signed up but aren't participating are missing out on a great bit of racing.
 
No no, I did not win the race, I finished third I think actually. I was like a minute + behind first place. First place car was a Lotus 350.
 
Thanks to everyone who ran the race and submitted times to me - i've not had chance to run the race yet (i will tonight) so i won't post the results yet.

Thanks for not berating me over being a little off-the-case with this series so far, i've had a close family bereavement recently which has taken up a lot my time.
 
Hey...that's OK...there's so much more to life than GT4. Sorry for your loss.

This is a really entertaining series...especially this race...as you might be able to tell from my posts...It seems that the Shelby with the -10%Hp and the difficuly 4 is nearly a perfect match for my abilities against the computer drivers.

Really excited about this week's results as it seems that for whatever reason I have the advantage of only having to pit once in the Shelby. We'll see.
 
Bah, this is frustrating.
I've got 12 things to do and time for 10.
Again, I will try to make time to run this race but I'm not sure...
 
Sad news mate, sorry for your loss. You've made a very laid back series here, don't stress about not getting results up quicker, now or for the remaining rounds.
 
I thought i'd provide the results as they stand so far. A couple of others have promised me times this morning - so i may need to update if i do receive them latter.

I knew the Alfa would struggle here, but i didn't think i'd finish a lap-and-a-half down on the winner! - especially since i only pitted once, and lapped all my A.I. opponants, most twice!

I am taking rewards weight for the next round if that is ok, the gap just seems to large and gives me the impression that my car is to fast.

Hopefully some more people will start submitting times as well.
