• Same regs as usual.

• 2 x 6 laps - 1st leg normal direction, 2nd leg reverse.

• Deadline - 12midnight GMT Sunday 13th Nov.

I may need to add some weight to Redline Fox - i'll do some testing over the weekend and post revisions on monday.

I managed to finish just ahead of the Lotus 350, which was messing up my life for a few laps. :-P

So this week I've decided to practice although I'm not really sure how to make it effective considering in "practice" there's no tire wear and no on track competition both of which are huge factors in the actual race.

So for giggles I went to Hong Kong for a 6 lapper.

1: 10'15.019, 6th Place, 1 penalty.
2: 10'09.245, 2nd Place, 2 penalties.
3: 10'06.172, 1st Place (by 2.010s), NO penalties.

Great racing.

I'm thinking I might try taking a random car (anything other than the Shelby) to Seattle, using difficulty 4 and decreasing the car's HP by 10%. These specs match up with the Shelby's HTAS regs. So I'm thinking it might produce a competitve field (based on my relative driving skill). [The diff 4 and -10% in the Shelby are nearly a perfect combination for my skill level and result in the most exciting racing against the AI competition I've been able to find]. Part of the difficulty at Hong Kong was figuring out where to pass. If I can figure out the passing zones in Seattle it will give me an advantage...and maybe prevent getting a penalty. Running some "practice" laps in the Shelby at Seattle should help get the handling down...maybe I'll use the S1 tires (a step down) as an attempt to simulate the lack of tire wear.

I'll report back how the testing works out and whether or not it seemed to help out in racing conditions.

I assume this sort of testing is not a breach of the rules.

Tire wear did not seem to be a very big issue, even with charging hard every lap. Getting the tires warm fast enough was actually more of a worry, then if they would go away from what I noticed.

Practice helped but only so much. I used the Focus RS for some testing and with Difficulty 4 and -10%HP it the races were relatively competitive. First time I'd driven a FF car in a long time...boy is that different from FR.

Race 1: I was on my game here. Toasted the field but the lead car wasn't the RUF 3400S.

Race 2: I manipulated the field to include the RUF. I suppose I got in a hurry wanting to get by the RUF and collected not 1, not 2 but 3 freaking penalties...not for rough driving but for basically stoopid driving and hitting the walls. I totally wasted the RUF despite the penalties and thought that maybe I had forgotten to decrease the HP...it was just too easy. But when I checked after the race the HP was reduced per specs. I was 20 seconds slower in race 2 thanks to driver error and once again impatience....you'd think I'd learn this by now.

I submitted my time this morning. I liked the idea of a race in both directions but I don't like Seattle at all. It's not the layout or the armco I don't like but the jumps. Where do you see touring cars or GT cars get airborn like that unless they are crashing? Never liked the track, never will unless they get rid of the jumps and make it just a hill.
I think I did a reasonable time. No tyre wear problems here. I had to readdress positions twice on the opening lap of the reverse race. I put that down to inexperience on the reverse layout.
PS: I don't like the train tracks either.

If you'll give me about 15 hours, I can probably get something in (go to bed in a bit, sleep for a solid 10 to catch up, and a few hours to eat/shower/get my day sorted out). Otherwise, I'll end up with another DNF in the standings.

Looks like my impatience may have cost me a position this week.

@Cracker. This is not a very time demanding series and, with your permission, I'd like to drive an additional car in the other class. I'm currently driving the Shelby. If this is ageeeable please assign me a car and I race both the final 3 weeks of the season...this way there'd be another competitor of sorts. Of course, I understand my 2nd car would not receive any points.

Maybe you could give me some tips on the difficulty setting that would result in a competitive race against the computer drivers.

Also, I've lost track of what each of us is driving. Is it noted in the main thread? If not maybe you could include the car being driven by each driver in the results just so we know.

I may do that myself - choose whatever car you want (it might be nice to have some Class B opposition) I'll probably call myself 'TheCracker2' - you could do the same. I'll still award points to us both - unless anyone has any objections?

If you want more competitive computer drivers feel free to raise or lower the AI difficulty level - it makes little or no difference to your overall times. In 'Class B' (Alfa, BMW & Nissan) I've run the last two races at level 5 - i'll go up to 6 or 7 for the next round since even at 5 i'm past the leader by the end of the first lap.

The link at the bottom of this post has what everyone runs at the moment, i think its up to date. I'll add the car type to the next set of results.
