Another option is to call the people at www.srswap.com. I got my front end clip for my S13 from there, you may want to try talking to them.
Again, I've met alot of people in California with SR's in their motor. No one that I know of has been arrested for their motor...
It's actually the visual inspection that I'm really worried about, the SR actually pollutes less that that truck motor. But my real concern is getting pulled over by a cop and busted for the SR. But they can't legally make you open your hood, so it's not really a problem.
