Hitch-hiking?

I had no idea that people still hitch-hiked, or that anyone would even consider picking up a hitch-hiker anymore. I sure as hell don't. I wouldn't even pick up a hitch hiker who was standing beside a car with its hood up and steam coming from the radiator.

It sounds to me like you want to take a trip that you simply can't afford to take.

That's basically asinine.

Even if he posted it is a joke, I could very easily seeing it go that way. No one in the US trusts foreigners, let alone hitch-hiking youth that will probably just look suspicious.

I'm pretty sure if you declare you intentions at the border "as hitch-hiking across the country" they are going to question you a bit more. And if they pick you up in a State hitch-hiking... and any of your papers seem suspicious, say hi to hell.

Welcome to post 9/11 USA.

If you get picked up anywhere near the border by cop, he's going to laugh at you and drive you back to the border, where he'll say "have a good day" as he watches you walk home feeling utterly defeated.

Not if we "left our passports at home" (somewhere in the USA).

Seriously, once you're in, it's damn hard to kick them out. And with your [edit] 13 million illegal immigrants, I hardly think 2 hitch-hiking Canadians are going to stir up much.

Eh, you'd be surprised. Most of our illegal immigrants don't hitch hike right from the border.

Secondly, the cops will expect you to have some form of State ID or such.

As I recall, police have more than just cause to haul you off to jail without proper identification... I may be mistaken, but I seem to remember hearing that more than once...

I'm pretty sure they don't.

A guy who's going to the corner store for a carton of milk with nothing but a $5 bill in his wallet can't possibly be hauled off to jail for not having ID.

Oh, wait, it's the States.
