Back in 2002, Holden were hoping to build a GT race car to take on the likes of the Ferrari 360 NGT and Porsche 911 GT3-RS in the Bathurst 24 Hours. They first approached Holden Racing Team but they turned the project down, but Gary Rogers Motorsport (who regularly ran Holden V8 Supercars at the time) accepted the challenge.
This car became known as the 427C, powered by a 7.0 V8 lifted from the Le Mans winning Corvette C5-R, and with an aero kit similar to the Monaro V8 Supercar, the 427C won the Bathurst 24 Hours in 2002 and 2003 as well as winning the last ever race of the Nations Cup in 2004.
This car was controversial in that it was the only car in the Nations Cup to race with a higher displacement than what was available in the road car (Only a 5.7 Monaro was available in 2004).
The car you see here could've allowed Holden to compete in the replacement series, the Australian GT Championship, had it made it to the production stage, but Holden decided it would've been too costly to mass produce the C5-R's V8 and keep the 427 at the planned asking price of AUS$215,000.
Known as the HRT 427, this car was shown off at the 2002 Sydney Motor Show and featured a slightly detuned version of the C5-R's 7.0 V8 producing 580HP, with only 2 examples being built.
