Holiday To Portugal!

So myself and a smallish group of friends are going to the Castelo region of Albufeira at the end of August.

As far as I know it's not a particularly touristy are and we're going mostly for abit of sun and beach. To be honest, I don't know a whole lot about it as they decided to organise most of it during exams, so I've sort of left them to it and handed over the desposit.

Anything important we should know?

How difficult will communication be in that area? Will we be expected to speak Portuguese (I speak a little Spanish, my friends abit of French, we can get the basics sorted prior to going if needs be) or are the locals relatively tolerant of English and out lack of language skills?

Anything we should avoid in the sea? :nervous:

I'll probably have some much more detailed questions to ask once I talk through this with the others and I've finished my exams.

Hi, if you're from the UK and you're going to Albufeira you'll find that everyone there speaks english (even the british community members living there :dopey: ), so you won't have any "communication" problems.

As far as I know, there's nothing to avoid in the sea.

August in the south of Portugal can be very hot indeed, so keep track of how many cold beers you're having. The police is quite tolerant if you're drunk and (still) walking, not so if they catch you driving.

None of us are planning to drive either as being designated driver at home is on thing but on holiday! Plus, we've all only been driving for a year at most so probably won't risk it.
 
Has Hun200kmh said, communication is really easy. In Albufeira almost everyone is used to English, so there is no problem.

The only problem in the South Seas is the Weaver Fish (“Peixe-Aranha”), that is a venomous fish. The venom doesn’t kill, but gives some pain that is heat labile. They normally reside on the sand, in calm waters, so if you don’t see any one bathing (rare), go slowly. I was bitted once, and I am just warning. The treatment is only to put the foot in hot water and the pain goes away.

The rest is cool. Albufeira at night is full of life, lots of bars, street entertainment…so, good choice. 👍
 
Ah we get weaver fish here aswell. Great fun hearing about who urinated on who's foot last time someone steeped on one down the beach :lol:
