Hi Can anyone tell me of a good home cinema system for ps3, for a small bed room. Did have a logio tech 2 speakers and base bin for ps2. Was ok but would like something that would be possible to up grade. Im more at the budget end rather than expencive. Thanks

Because of this comment, I'd suggest staying away from most HTiB's and going with a separate receiver and speakers.

Note: I'm not necessarily suggesting any of the components I've linked to as I haven't looked at gear in quite a while and I haven't looked at gear from the UK in even longer. I'm sure there are other members that could point you in a better direction as far as that goes.

The upside to components over a HTiB - typically a better selection of inputs/outputs, upgradability, can be purchased in phases if needed (receiver, left and right in phase one, sub in phase two, etc.).

The downside - components will almost assuredly be more expensive, but you're also going to get better quality. Personally, I can't stand HTiB's, but to each their own. 👍

All that said, what kind of budget are you thinking? Cheap to you might be expensive to me and vice versa. Which route would you prefer - separates or HTiB? Once these are decided on I'm sure someone will have some good suggestions for gear for you.

or you can buy a soundbar. It should be enough for a small room.
There is a huge selection of those

If you're looking at upgrade potential, that makes me think that you're looking at this as a temporary solution. With that in mind, you should go second hand, in the eBay/Gumtree space.

Look for small monitor speakers, like these. Buy two pairs to start with.

Buy a receiver with multiple optical inputs, like this one.

You then just need to buy some cables, and you're up & running with a fully upgradable system for inside £200.

Note: running a 4.0 system like this, you'll need to set your centre speaker to "phantom" or "none" (a Denon amp should put itself into phantom mode automatically, but a Technics and a Sony will need to be told to do it manually). Add a dedicated active subwoofer like this one when you have cash, then buy a centre speaker like this one later.

Another vote for second hand seperates. Anything less and you'll just regret it.

The sound per pound value on ebay is unbelieveable.

Just don't buy from this guy! language warning

I also agree that a separate AV amp and speakers is better than a "home cinema in 1 box" option. If you would rather buy new than second hand off ebay or similar then I highly recommend Richer Sounds. I've had a quick look and they have a couple of Onkyo amp and speaker packages that look pretty good if you're not confident selecting the separates yourself, the Onkyo HTS3405 for £300 and Onkyo HTS5405 for £370. Not sure what your budget is though.

Thanks very much for all your help, Im looking for 5.1 home cinema for max £250-£300 at the most. I know I can get something from argos which is an up grade on the logitic system, for £60, but its not what I want. Main problem I find with the logitic is that it is just raw sound that it out puts, which you have no control. Thanks I will save up some money.

You can if you ever want to upgrade component by component from it.

Correct - But OP called for a system for a small bedroom, and you can always move your Z5500 into an office, once the room containing the PS3 changes to something larger (-:

So does anyone else recomend the logitech Z5500 5.1 set? The one for for ps2 was very basic, was better than tv speackers more bass than top, just couldn't alter any of the sound out put. Bedroom is more rectanglale than squrie, with 32" tv sky plus box.

Very true, but the OP also said:

Given what you have asked in the original post I would go as far as doing the opposite.

A entry level separates system would cost you little more and offer better sound and an upgrade route for the future.

For example

http://www.richersounds.com/product/av-receivers/sony/strdh510/sony-strdh510 - £130

http://www.richersounds.com/product/speaker-packages/yamaha/nsp285/yama-nsp285-blk - £100

£230 for a solid start point.
