I'd prefer 5.1 but if you can show me a decent 2.1 I'll take a look.

I'd also recommend the Panasonic. I just want to add that you can generally not expect much from these systems, and that you should not prefer one over the other because of figures. All the numbers, like Watt, Hertz and such, are just to look better than the competition. They usually don't have much to do with reality. The Panasonic looks fairly alright though, at least better than the rest.

If you want to have normal TV in 5.1 too, and/or something like your PS2, I'd reccommend my system.

It's a little fiddlier, but you get 3 different inputs in the back (phono, coaxial & optical), so you can stick your TV in one, your PS2 in another and a DVD player in the 3rd. Trust me, anything on TV in surround sound is gorgeous :D. It's also very handy if a decent film is on TV, and I've even wired my laptop into it. It's definately worth considering.

If you want some reassurance, just speak to me, or look at the plentiful reviews. The sound is excellent too, especially when you consider the price. It's in Argos for £90 (where I bought it), and on ebay for about £40. The only downside is that, obviously, it comes without a DVD player, but if you've got one already that's sorted. And of course, you can plug in whatever you like ;)

Agreed. The reviews sound good, as well.

It can handle Dolby Digital, Dolby ProLogic II, and DTS and is 30 watts per channel with 110 going to the sub. Personally, I'd rather see 80w to everything, but so be it. All in all, it looks like a good unit. 👍

It does look good, but I want a DVD player so I can move away from using my PS2. My stereo is knackered so it would be nice for the player to have a cdplayer and AM/FM radio as well as playing mp3 cds. The fact that the one that i put in the first post also plays DVD-R's and DivX movies is a bonus.

That also looks good, but is a little less powerful than what I wanted. Plus the above problems i posted. I'll definatetly ask you about it though.

*edit*
I was just looking at the specifications of the Phillips in the first post. It says that it does not have a subwoofer. That can't be right can it?

You can pick up a decent DVD player for next to nothing that can handle most video formats. I personally don't see built-in as being a plus. But then again, I'm an individual component guy, not an all-in-one-box, but that is just me. :)

[magic 8 ball]All indications point to the fact that is does indeed have a sub.[/ball] I bet you didn't know you could get all that on a tiny little screen, eh?

Like I mentioned earlier, forget about figures. A system with less power can easily sound better, apart from that the majority of these components doesn't provide the power it should anyway.

I'm so confused! :(

At the moment i'm sticking with my first instinct, the Philips. I might change my mind though.

And ultimately, no matter which one you choose, you'll be happy with it, but you'll always wonder if you made the right decision.

Personally I'd choose Philips over Goodmans. You're getting a much more mainstream brand for your cash. If you're confused by Currys and Dixons' sites, don't be surprised. I remember price checking an iPod video and being told it doesn't have a screen...

I had to look SCART up. We don't have a connection like that here in the US. It does sound like a nice thing to have, but again, for as inexpensive as you are going, I start to question if you will find one with everything you are looking for. I'm sure it's out there. It just might take a while to find it.

You don't have SCART? Wow!

I saw the original Phillips that I was going for on the Comet site. It also said only 5 speakers included so I just called them. They confirmed that the Subwoofer is not included, and they don't sell it seperately either. What a load of bullcrap!

I'll go for that LG one. Apart from the SCART, it actually has more features and a more powerful sub. I have some Red, White, Yellow to SCART converters anyway so it's not too much of a problem.

If you find a system you like - Try 'froogle.co.uk' (just type in the brand and model number) and you'll probably find it at a cheaper price.

No, sir. At least not that I have ever seen.

Going that route, 3 of the 4 store are £99.99 and one is £86.99.

Yay! That's the first time I've ever used the "£" symbol!

At Comet there is a 15% discount so it's £84.99.

Sounds like a deal :). If it's an LG, you won't get much cheaper than Comet anyway. You could ebay it and save a few pounds, but it's within your budget so why bother.

Holy crap this thing kicks arse! I am really pleased with it!! I want to watch movies so much more now. The whole room shakes!!!

They moved their 4yr old daughter into the room connected to mine. I heard her crying last night. :grumpy:
