Anybody here into homebrewing beer?

It's something I've wanted to do for quite some time now and I just got a simple starter kit yesterday for fathers day...

(To anyone experienced I know I know it's a Mr.Beer... but hey they were bought by Coopers, use their ingredients, and I got it as a gift ;))

I must admit that I'm not too thrilled about the included brew but I'll make it and try it simply because it came with it.

What I really can't wait to do is a Pumpkin Lager and a Doppelbock. If all goes well I plan to get a couple of 6 gallon carboys and stop drinking "bought" beer altogether except on occassion if there is something I can't come anywhere close to making.

So.... anyone else here homebrewing? Got recipes or experience tips to share? Post it up here as I will try to do as well as I progress through this hobby.

*Mods: If this is in the wrong place please move to the appropriate area 👍

I recently was given a Mr. Beer kit too. It came with one of their IPA brews, which I'm excited about. The only reason I haven't started it yet is because all of the bought beer that I drink comes in bottles that do not have twist off caps, and I don't drink soda from plastic bottles.

Same here but that's a good thing! Caps are like $5 for 144 or something and a capper is about $13. SAVE YOUR BOTTLES! You want the flip top type NOT twist offs ;-)

Did your kit not come with bottles? Mine has 8 1L bottles in it, but theyre plastic so I wont be using them, just because im saving my glass ones.

Hi my grandad makes a lot of home brew beer and wine. I work at at a fruit salad factory so when I get any fruit cheap out of the staff shop I give it to him and he will make some wine with it. Also he has 2 of these to keep the beer he makes in.

Ya I found a place online yesterday that sells fermenters similar to that for 5 gallon batches at about $9 each. Thinking I might have to pick up a few.
