I posted this on the Cheap Homebuilt thread about a week ago but for those of you who don't check that thread I thought I'd post it here. I got a DFGT for Christmas from my wonderful wife and had to build a driving seat for cheap (she is in RN school...money is short). I bought 3-8ft 2x4s, 1-8ft 2x6 and a box of 50 2 1/2in wood screws. I had a spare piece of 2x4 plywood for the base and found some scrap carpet for the runners. Total price (minus DFGT and seat) was about $15. I would have went for a different seat but I also got a $35 gift card for Christmas which covered basically the whole price of the seat. I thought it turned out pretty good considering I had no plans and had to build it from scratch. The footprint is 2ftx4ft and it fits me perfectly (I'm about 5'5"). If anyone wants plans, I'm sure I can do some measurements and get them.

A nice simple cheap design, well done.

Now go check on cheap DFGT pedal mods that you can do.

Happy driving

Reminds me of a suggestion some people posted to our internal uservoice suggestion board. It was something like "Please paint our servers red, it'll make them faster - it's working for Ferrari cars, too.". So, we painted them red the next day...

As long as the wheel And pedals feel sturdy and in place, and with a comfortable seat, which supports you with hours of play. If it does all that, for that price, its really good. But do you store it away anywhere, or does it stand in the open!?

This setup looks really good. The one question I have is how did you fasten all the components to the frame?

I have a "man cave" that it gets stored in. It is pretty easy to move with the carpet on the runners once I get it on the hardwood. I'm gonna buy a couple of casters to mount on the back to make it a little easier.

The pedals are held in place by 2 pieces of plywood. One to brace it from the back and one on the floor. I drilled small holes in the 2x4s and strapped the cables to them using zipties. It cleaned it up quite nice. I think that answered your question.
