We had our schools homecoming game tonight. We won. About half time some guy got knocked clean out. A helicopter had to come get him. We thought that would be the strangest thing all night. We were wrong.

I had a party tonight. A bunch of friends from college were coming up for the game. I went ot another party and heard some girls I didn't invite had come. I left the party to come to my place and kick them out. I got home and they weren't here. I come to find out about 10 minutes after arriving home that they had been drunk and they had left my house. About 100 yards from my house there was a mangled up car that looked like familiar. It belonged to Chelcie. I see a helicopter taking someone away and I see 2 bodybags on the ground and I hear lots of screaming. I have had classes with every girl that was in that car, and every girl in that car has been to my house dozens of times.

I'm in a state of total shock and don't know what to think right now. I just got home from the hospital and there are well over 100 people there trying to find out what's happened. I don't know what to think. Sorry for the irrational post.

Damn.

Why can't people be responsible? I hate when sobriety is taken for granted.

Holy ****. You must be shaken up.

Try and do something that may take your mind off it, play a game or do something that requires concentration.

Moral of this story: Drinking and driving kills. Like 911 Carrera said, do something that takes your mind off this tremendous loss.

Agreed on both points. But you've got to do something to take your mind off the event. I was in a semi-similar position a few months ago, and watching Loony Tunes on TV really helped me (it was the only way I could take my mind off of what had happened, and in turn got me some sleep that night).

That all depends on whether the driver had been drinking... having drunk passengers isn't a crime.

Sad when this sort of thing happens. :(

Of course.

My friend's dad is in Europe, and he's holding crazy parties like so.

Sometimes, I just don't understand what happened to him. The immaturity of my peers is astounding.

There is a reason that the drinking age is 21.

Oh, why did you leave your own party? That doesn't make any sense.

edit:

You should change the title to Driving + Beer, instead of Homecoming + Beer.

I left my own party because I have an identical twin brother who could stay here and take care of it.

The Feds have already been here to investigate. It doesn't take long to backtrack the carload of people 150 yards to my house. The girls had come here drunk, they didn't drink here. I wouldn't even call what happened here a party, I had friends from Valdosta State over, that's all.

Blood tests show that the driver, Courtney, was not drunk. She was however, high and more than likely on pills.

I drive by the spot they wrecked everyday. I had just spoken with every girl in that car that night. I still can't help but feel guilty for them leaving my house, only to die 30 seconds later.

Don't feel guilt. Sadness, yes, but not guilt.

They arrived wasted.

They got wasted of their own free will.

They drove wasted of their own free will.

It's a shame, and a tragedy, and a teribble loss for all who knew them. But it's not your fault, whether you were there or not.

Oh, I see now.

Yes, listen to Duke. Judge yourself not by the circumstances, but by your adaption thereafter.

RIP

I hate to say it, but this shows why people should leave their car at home when they plan on driving. Or at least point out someone who should be driving that night and stay sober. Of course the passengers shouldn't be blamed, but the driver shouldn't ever have stepped behind the steering wheel.

I feel sorry for the parents, other family members and friends staying behind, that's the worst part of the entire event.

Not to cast inappropriate humor over the thread, but that's sig material right there.

HAHAHA, you beat me to it, man.

Sorry to hear about this terrible incident... :guilty:

yea, and if they do determine that alcohol was a factor, and they found out they got it at your house, your ****ed.
That's simply not true. Unsanctified has nothing to worry about. How could they establish where the girls got drunk? They couldn't. And even if they could, they (the police) could never establish who 'supplied' the alcohol. They arrived drunk. For all you know, they may have brought their own supplies, or simply gatecrashed a party and taken whatever they could get their hands on... either way, the responsibility lies with the girls. It may sound harsh, but the responsibility for the accident lies squarely with the individual who got behind the wheel of a car whilst drunk and who also allowed the others to travel with them.

Family members of drunk drivers and their victims that died have sued the places where the driver was drinking and won. A local TGI Fridays settled a case over this not too long ago. They ended up changing their policy and removing all forms of gaming materials from the bar area because the case in question involved a guy who was playing trivia and drinking for eight hours and then hit another car killing himself and two teenagers.

Here's the story.

I think it's crazy that bars can be sued like that - how can the staff possibly know that their customers are going to jump in their cars and then kill someone? If people had to answer the question "Are you driving home?" and those who answered yes were refused alcohol as a result, how long would it be before people would simply park round the corner and answer 'no'? That is the sole responsibility of the driver, not the establishment....

It's the law gone mad if you ask me... Still, it obviously does happen. But there would have to be solid proof that the drunk driver had procured and/or consumed the alcohol on those premises for that company (or person) to be liable, even though I think it's madness that they can even be held liable at all. In my opinion, the only people that are responsible for drink-driving accidents are the people who drink and drive, end of story....

I completely agree that it is the law gone mad but when teh driver is dead too they will sue the next person down the line. After learning I could be held liable every party I had at my place involved a practice I took from the movie "Say Anything." One person, the key master, held the keys for everyone and only people deemed sober were given their keys back. If they chose to find another ride home their car and keys weould be at my place in the morning. I never let anyone drunk leave my house to drive.

This case however is not Unsanctified's fault. They did not receieve any intoxicatying substance from him or his place. He should be fine. He wasn't even there when the girls left.
