Honda recalls 167,000 Acura TSX's!!

HONDA Motor Company's luxury vehicle division Acura said today a recall of some 167,000 Acura TSX models to replace a power steering hose that could lead to a "smoke or a fire" hazard.

"Affected TSX vehicles are 2004-2008 models sold in the US with the 2.4L inline 4-cylinder engine," a company statement said, adding that the repair "involves installing a new power steering hose, o-ring gasket and fluid".

Honda said the hose has a potential "for premature deterioration ... as a result of prolonged exposure to high under-hood temperatures" and could develop cracks allowing power steering fluid to leak on the hot exhaust system "potentially generating smoke or a fire".

The repair, it added, will be "all done at no cost to the vehicle owner".

In mid-April, Honda recalled several hundred of its 2010 Acura ZDX to inspect passenger-side airbags.

Atleast they aren't accelerating away on their own. :)

I'm curious. I don't know if it's obvious but how many "failures" does it take for a manufacturer to recall that many cars. 1? 10? If so it's still ridiculous - you're more likely to have something catch fire in your kitchen for example...

The NHTSA tend to get very excited about such things, to be honest, and Honda probably don't want to be sued. Or have the NHTSA shouting about it too much and ruin their 'we're not Toyota' image.
 
Alllllllll manufacturers have recalls, tons of recalls. I dont know why their making such a big fuss with the toyota ones, its getting EXTREMELY stupid in my opinion!
 
Because the Media hadn't had a nice circus in awhile and needed to prey on someone, now that the big three are indisposed. and a cop got killed in one.
 
There was a huge media circus around toyota's recall because there was a possibilty that Toyota knew about the stuck pedals for quite some time and they kept it hidden. (Or something like that.)

Now about the TSX on the other hand, I was just thinking about test driving one. I guess now I'm gonna have to change my mind now.
 
Nothing more than a routine check up. Early 3rd Gen. TLs had this & nearly all checked out fine to begin with.
 
I hate it how the media is now focusing on import car manufacturer's mistakes.

Steering issues are much worse over sudden acceleration. With Acceleration you put it into a Neutral and you are safe. With bad steering that catches on fire, all you can say BYE BYE to that car once its on fire!

So do I. But I guess the American media want to use their mistakes to their own advantage. If any car that isn't American has a recall, they will make it known to the public FAST. That way, I assume, people would probably buy more American instead.

Yeah the media is so bad that I haven't seen this recall on TV at all.
 
Neither did I. I also didn't see the Cadillac recall on the news either.
 
They get on the domestic makes plenty. I think you guys are right about the Toyota recalls. One minute, it was end of the world as we knew it, and next minute........ whatever happened to that deal with the unintended acceleration??????

I wasn't around(in this country) when Audi recall took place in the 80's, but I've read some stories comparing it to the Toyota recalls. Basically, most unintended acceleration were caused by idiot drivers, but you get enough people start pointing their fingers at the manufacturers, and THE GOVERNMENT jumps in to save the day.

While I have no doubt that Toyota did have issues with acceleration, maybe with the floormats, but so did everybody else in the business. There was one poster in the Toyota recall thread who kept slamming Toyota, singling them out. I asked about the other manufacturers, I got no response. I'm guessing it was similar handling by the government. Punish Toyota, forcibly call for recalls. Pretty much have them begging for mercy. Ford & GM? Oh, no biggie, especially considering they invested in one of them. Toyota apologized, will the government? We'll see(no).

If nothing came out of the Toyota recall fiasco, I'd be very mad(totally censored, right there). And to the people who were shocked that Toyota knew about the problem, and did nothing: Welcome to the real world, it's about time you woke up. ;)

I'll be mad if all the foreign car companies keep getting **** on about recalls by the NHTSA and the gov while the domestics get a slap on the wrist, as you said.

It wasn't just the domestics, I think over half the manufacturers had unintended acceleration claims against them. I brought up just Ford & GM to make a point, but I think even Volkswagen, Honda were pretty high on the NHTSA's claim list.

Knowing the politicians, I guess it could've been a "fix" to hammer Toyota to boost domestic sales though. I really wouldn't put it passed them.

Bottom line, defects in foreign & domestic cars are placed on recall all the time. Domestic recall news are definitely quieter by my observation too, but I also think the imports were being favored by them in the past, so I think it kind of evens out. I just hope they say something about their finding regarding Toyota cars. Last couple of theories media was reporting were stretch though. They'll probably blame the acceleration on Satan before anybody apologizing to Toyota. :lol:
 
I think we should do something about it. Maybe create a movement.
 
Like, Quit watching TV and just get our news form reputable online sources? Only use televisions as monitors for gaming consoles? Vote out all our encumbents whilst we're at it?

Really though, when it comes to recalls the media pays attention to whatever one has a large amount of affected vehicles. It wasn't that long ago that Ford & Firestone had a similar media swarm around them.

Agreed. I think this is a reason to consider a TSX, not a reason to strike it off your list. Honda is upfront about this and recalling a ton of vehicles to make sure. They don't need tons of pressure to issue the recall.

I've had 3-4 recalls on my Honda Accord. I think it's fantastic. I have 130kmi on my car and am years out of the factory warranty but they still fixed my seat belts under a lifetime warranty. I love it when a company stands behind their products like this.
