Been a new member here for about 2 weeks, great info for the lovers of GT5.

I'm not a diehard gamer, I play with a regular PS3 controller, and some of the seasonal, special, and license tests are impossible to get gold on.

Some members say they have all gold on the listed above, I'm curious how many members actually do and what they use as a controller, just curious if I suck or is an aftermarket controller that much better??

Chime in with your opinion.

G25, golded everything except the A-spec 24 hour races.

Most of the people who have golded them use Steering wheel/ pedal set ups. Those that have golded them all with the DS3 control have probably spent hours and hours perfecting each one until they gold them.

There is a thread around for all who golded everything.
I dont think everybody has stated the used controller.

Basically you can get Gold with a Wheel or a DS3 (there are also people around who golded the Vettel challenges with a DS3). The later is much harder though in my oppinion. It all comes down to practise practise practise.

I used the controller to gold everything. (except for the X1 Vettel Challenge.) It's a combination of practice, technique and luck. Some of the license tests were really hard and took ages to gold.

I also golded the license tests before I got my wheel. The wheel isn't an automatic "make you a better driver" solution for gt5, there's a learning curve to the wheel as well. But once you're used to it, it does allow you to be more precise, and therefore a little more consistent.

Ive golded everything except the 24HR endurances with a DS3 but now i use a G25

Im a DS3 user. I have a wheel, but when I play, I just drop down and play for a short time. Setting up a wheel every time is too much work and with kids running around, its just not practical.

When I use my wheel, I dont find my times are much better. On the ring for example, Im faster with the DS3. On Indy, grand valley or highspeed ring, faster with the wheel.

I have lots of golds scattered around, I skipped quite a few A-Spec races at the thrill of unlocking another level and now 350xp + 1,000 credits doesn't seem very appealing at level 34. Also, I've got 59 gold in licenses and 1 silver on the cone slalom in that green car. Can't get it :(.

Specials are just random gold as well, depending on whether I can be bothered to try them again.

For the slalom in the FT-86, try using manual transmission and once you hit redline shift straight from 1st to 3rd (skip 2nd), you should be able to floor it all the way to a gold. That worked for me after a couple tries.

I know a fair few people who have golded all the licences with the controller, I take my hats off to them because I am useless with the controller, then again I have been using a wheel for around 7 years now, so its little surprise I'm much better with a wheel.

I only drift with the controller, but I know several members that are a lot faster then me on timetrials, members that only use a controller.

A good assignment of the buttons can help a lot: I use a slightly different set-up, but this is not bad

I've got Gold in every event till now using the DS3, including the Vettel Challenge.

Basically, practice practice practice practice. It took me about a week before I was even able to get the X2010 to do one lap without going off the track, let alone going all-out, and getting 2 consistent all out laps :ouch:

I golded everything except the Vettel Challenges (Nurb silver, Monza gold, Suzuka bronze), and the 24-hour races (haven't done them) with a DS3. The key is just to practice a lot.

DS3 /external camera /default button layout, golded everything except the Vettel challenge that i find really annoying the pit start and the 9h/24/24 endurance races.

DS3 user golded everything except Vettel challenge, only got bronze at Monza(before update) still didin't do the 9H, 24H and 24H.

👍 -kids.

I use a DS3 too, also have a cheap broken wheel, but I still prefer DS3 and I like to use chase cam (if GT5 has put so much effort on car details I like to apreciate them:sly:). Anyway, I still have 4 license tests to gold, some special events (Alfa 8C and some AMG Nurb challenges, but mainly the X2010 challenge:mad:, which is so frustrating since I can make awesome runs on Nurb GP and then screw up for stupid stuff, not even counting Suzuka:yuck:) and some Endurance Races (mid-race save anyone?). Also, I now am mainly playing other games so if I only played GT5 I think that I could gold these challenges...I guess. Have fun and practise if you really want that special thing!

Ive golded everything except the 9 and 24 endurances. I use Logitech DFGT wheel.
Some licences were very hard to me to gold them, but try after try after try... and all 60 are gold for me :)

Ive been using a wheel since the ps1 and to be completly honest Im still faster with a controller than I am with a wheel. The wheel gives more control over braking (a little) and gas but the car is way easier to control with a ds3. Just my thoughts on wheel or ds3 being faster. I still always drive with my wheel though.

My props to your DS3 skills, gentlemen.👍

DS3, G25, G27, pah. Lightweights. Whilst I haven't Golded everything (frankly I don't have the time nor the inclination), I've Silvered everything and Golded a few. All of this I've done on a manky SixAxis controller that has a penchant for turning left. The only way it could get worse is if I shoved a USB cable up my dog's arse and tried to use his paws for pedals and his ears for steering..!!

On a serious note, I don't think it matters an awful lot what controller you use. The most important component is you. If you're dead set on Golding everything, then you'll need a bucket of patience, because you're going to be tested no matter what you use. Stick with it...

Gold on everything - f.e. 60 gold licenses with the pre patch regulars (excluded S.Vettel Nürburgring, S.Vettel Suzuka, and the following a-Spec events because there is no mid game save: 9hr Tsukuba, 24hr LaSarthe, 24hr Nürburgring), with a stock DS3. :sly:👍

Improve your GT5 skills. A good one can goldish all with a DS3 (except the S.Vettel Challenges). A uber one can goldish everything with a DS3.

The magic trick is: practice & experience. Sounds plain, but that's how it is. :D

I use a DS3 and have managed to gold all 60 Lisence tests, golded most special events, (havent attempted X2010 challenge) golded everything in A spec except endurance races, and rarely have problems with any of the seasonal events. I even win a lot online, (clean racer here lol) i have even beaten guys with wheels plenty of times.

Regular controller all the way for me. I've thought about getting a wheel but it's not an option for me unless I feel like moving my television across the lounge whenever I want to use it (or move a table in front of the television, but I don't much feel like that either).

I've completed just about everything except the Vettel challenges but have barely any golds. Most of the time bronze is easy and silver is realistically possible, but for me gold is out of the question. There are a few exceptions where I got gold first time, but generally not.

I've just realised the other reason I don't buy a steering wheel: it's the fear that if I got one then maybe I still couldn't drive very fast...

I golden them with a DFGT. It's boring to golden them with a DS3

I have golded all 60 license tests and almost every Seasonal Event so far. I didn't manage to gold some of the old challeging Seasonal Events but that's most likely because I didn't have the time to get my setup right etc. before they expired. I am a a happy DS3 user. :)
