One of the problems I always had with the Phantom was that it was too freakin' big. If you've seen one in person, you most-certainly know what I mean. Its tall, and just looks heavy. But, worry no more! A "baby" Roller is on the way!

The Rolls Royce 200EX that you see above was supposed to be revealed for the first time two weeks from now at the 2009 Geneva Motor Show, but thanks to the London-based Telegraph we are able to show you the full car. As we mentioned early today, the new baby Rolls is based off of the newly released fifth-generation BMW 7-Series but will carry slightly larger dimensions all around, though its still smaller than the Phantom by 18 inches. Rather than utilizing the 6.75 liter V12 from the Phantom, the Rolls Royce 200EX will feature an all-new 6.0 liter V12 that shares its architecture with the 4.4 liter turbocharged, direct-injected V8 from the 750i.

The Rolls Royce 200EX previews the upcoming as-yet unnamed baby Rolls that will make its debut later this year at the Frankfurt Motor Show.

Go for it, BMW.

When it says smaller than the Phantom by 18 inches, does that mean length, or height? The Phantom is like an MPV...

That actually looks kinda nice. The Phantom was one luxury barge I never did care for. Like, it isn't really the size that bugs me, but more it's truck-like looks. This new Rolls looks much more... car-like. And it amuses me somewhat how RR's, Bentleys, and Maybachs all weigh more than your standard non HD pickup truck... :p

I really like it. I think they could have come up with a better name, though - Phantom sounds menacing; this sounds like the serial number for a toaster.

Well this is pretty boring.

Maybach making a smaller version of the Exelero, now that'd be interesting.

This might be a wise choice, seeing as how even rich people may be tightening their belts...and trying to look better in the eyes of ready-to-riot commoners...with a smaller, trimmer (and probably more fuel-efficient) Roller. Heck, they may even start driving themselves.

I'm certain the Chauffeur can find another job...

That concept looks very close to being production ready. I think this is pretty much what the RR4 will look like...

Lose the dumbo ears and you'll have a very nice car that isn't "too much" like the Phantom appears to be.

I think the only thing that ever bothered me about the Phantom was the size. I mean, when the hood of the car is nearly at the level of my chest, thats HUGE. You don't sit into the car, you step in, and then sit down. Its just crazy.

Personally, the only Phantom that ever worked for me was the Drophead, so going smaller is a good way to make me dislike them less. Since their divorce, at least in my opinion, Bentley > Roller.
