hey~ i am new to gt4 (and gt in general) and hope someone can help me with this...

how may i unlock courses (especially the hong kong course) ?? i am guessing it has nothing to do with license ^^;;... even though it will likely not make difference, i am playing the chinese version to let you know..

thanks!

As far as I know the courses get unlocked as the days progress. Just keep playing and the course should eventually open up.

Its not like GT3? Beating all the Arcade rounds to unlock all the tracks? I doubt that they would unlock as the days pass in the game... Perhaps those A-spec points come into consideration? I don't have the game yet so I can only speculate... :indiff:

No they unlock on given days, as I remember every 20 days a new track opens. This has been discussed repeatedly here.

GT4 is nothing like GT3 in it's structure.

Ah~ That helps me out I guess... Anyways I'll be surprised when I get the game... I didn't read much into the structure in how the game plays out... Heh heh.... Feb 22~ 👍

I'll try to produce a list of tracks and days sometime over the weekend. I need to experiment with a save started from Day 1.

I am sure it was a coincidence but the first Sarthe circuit opened up immediately I passed the licence test.

I hoped it was. I'll produce a list at the weekend then.

No need, i've already got a simple list here, as we have been over this topic many times. As you can see, a new track is unlocked every fortnight (game date) in the gt mode regardless of whatever else you do in the game.

Date is the date in the game, and not the current real date ofcourse.
Apr 16 - Deep Forest
Apr 30 - Opera Paris
May 14 - Fuji Speedway 90s
May 28 - Special Stage Route 5
Jun 11 - Suzuka Circuit
Jun 25 - Twin Ring Motegi
Jul 09 - Grand Valley Speedway
Jul 23 - Hong Kong Circuit
Aug 06 - Suzuka Circuit West
Aug 20 - Fuji Speedway in '05 GT
Sep 03 - Ice Arena
Sep 17 - Apricot Hill Raceway
Oct 01 - Cote'd Azur
Oct 15 - Tahiti Maze
Oct 29 - Twin Ring Motegi Road Course (Long)
Nov 13 - George V
Nov 27 - Cathedral Rocks
Dec 10 - Amalfi
Dec 24 - Circuit de la Sarthe 1
Jan 08 - Chamoix
Jan 22 - Circuit de la Sarthe 2
......... and couple more i think, cant remember exactly which one.

RogsR34 has made a thread showing all the tracks and the day they are unlocked. From memory, it takes 351 days to unlock them all.

Wouldn't that mean you could just cheat by entering a race and exiting it with out racing repeditivly? :dopey:

Can anyone drop a video of this HK track? I didn't see it yet and I hope it's an amazing track to race on... just like New York... looking forward to take a skyline to those roads.

Go to scea.com and then search GT4, it will bring you to the official site, and you can see many videos, like the courses and the pit crew. :)

Don't have a video (actually, I do, but not any way to get it onto my computer), but just a couple of comments on the course... it is not one of my favorites, among the city courses. It is tight, doesn't flow very well, and the curbs are placed in just the right spot to mess up the ideal racing line through several of the corners. It seems to have a stop, go, stop, go kind of feel to it. I much prefer Opera Paris and New York to this one (among the tracks that were not in GT3)

I saw the video's (thnx) and it looks pretty cool to me. Of course I'll have to play it before I really know. I remember not really liking the Seattle courses in GT2 because for some reason I couldn't drive an ideal line either unless I was using something like a tommy kaira zz or another car with great handling. All those blind corners give me shivers too. I just like the setting of Hong Kong, of course New York and Paris have great settings too.

Is it my computer or are the video's on that site really dark? I hope it'll be brighter when actually playing the game. I always prefer day settings in racing games.

If anyone here HATED the Cote d' Azure course in GT3 -- you will DOUBLY HATE the Hong Kong course. Cote d Azure (hereafter referred to as CDA), is the digital equivilent to Monnaco -> the REAL road course.

Monnaco is probably the most challenging road courses in the world. Not only are the straights very short, but the corners are very many and very tight -- very few places to pass and get up to top speed. This may be the reason that it is one of the most prized courses of racers. By winning this course, you get much respect for it! It is a tactical course, not a gas it and go course!

Hong Kong, much like Monnaco, is a tactical course. If any one here has ever watched a real F1 race, you may notice it is NOTHING like a NASCAR OR IRL (Indy) race!! You have to know your corners 4 turns in advance, and know exactly when to start braking before each of them. This may be why the Coffee Breaks are much harder than the licenses (so I've heard).

The Coffee Breaks may be set up that way to really HONE (fine tune) your racing skills. By making it harder to complete them, it makes you drive better, cleaner and thusly, actually faster! Because you actually LOOK for the spot to start breaking, LOOK for the apex that you want, and when all of those elements come together -- you can fly around the track without nailing the guardrail, but rather skim past it, and your opponent!

If anyone were really trying to race and not just win -- he/she would try to race cleaner than the AI, and actually make the race no race at all -- more of "Follow The Leader". Where you are the Leader, and they are racing like hell to catch up to you!!

Just my honest opinion!

The Hong Kong course is fun and super-realistic, but they annoyingly got the tallest building in Hong Kong (IFC 2) completely wrong. It's chooped off about two thirds of the way up! I think they took the reference pics when it was under construction. It's really irritating!
