Horrible quality on songs that I've been downloading lately.Music

I just downloaded all 14 songs from Audioslave's CD. I was gonna burn them onto a CD, but before I did, I listened to a few. That's whan I noticed that about...10 of them were full of skippy distorted sounds that made them sound like ****. It definately wasn't supposed to sound like that. It's not my speakers or computer either, because when I listen to other songs using the same player, they sound great. My theory is that the record companies are releasing songs like that to stop us from stealing their music. It's probably true, because only on the newer songs I download is anything screwed up. Like when I downloaded the new Chili Peppers CD, I got 2 songs that were just big loops of the same 20 second sound clip. **** the record companies. Because of this, I'm never buying a CD again.

Edit: I do not mind buying CDs if I want to support that artist. If there is a band who isn't very well known or popular. I will almost always buy their CD instead of burning it. With big bands like Audioslave, or Red Hot Chili Peppers though, I have no problems with burning their CDs. They have enough money. The sad thing is that the douche bags at the record companies only seem to produce these ****ed up, distorted tracks for the big name bands, and not the little known ones.
 
I think someone has produced some sort of audio anti-ripping thingy technology (great terminology). My Static-X Cd has a funny looking silver rim around the edge. When I tried to rip a track to my computer using music match, I played it and it started skipping. Then I tried to use Windac to rip it directly and it worked ok. There is some sort of trick I read in a PC magazine where you cover this bit with tape or something and it rips like normal.

I don't download whole albums like you, but I understand what you mean. If I am interested in an artist I will download a couple of songs and if I like them I will buy their cd.

Shame the tools at the record companies don't realise this.
 
The trick is to use a marker and cover the silver edge with ink.

I think people just don't know how to rip correctly. People see their friends do it and they try to do it as well but, they have no computer knowledge and the rip comes out crappy.

So let's get this straight, you're stealing their music (call it what you want, but you're downloading/burning/listening and not paying...) and you have the rocks to complain about it when they try to outsmart you?!? All I have to say is "good for them". You're like a bank robber saying the bank has no right to put locks on the vault because they have plenty of money anyways... :irked: Thanks, folks like you are the reason I have to pay more to support the bands I like by buying their CD's.
 
Don't you remember what it was like to be 16? I have very little spare money to spend. Most of what I have goes towards gas for my car. Why would I spend 14 dollars of my hard earned money on a CD when I can go buy a 50 pack of blank CDs for the same price? When I get older and get a good job, I will have no problems dishing out x amount of dollars for music, but for now...I'm going to keep on burning.
 
If you can't sfford something, you don't deserve to have it. Sorry, we're in a capitalistic country, maybe you should go to China if you wanna be a communist.

Try buying the CD, it's only $12.
 
Again, I have more important things to save my money for (college, a car) and everyone loves music. Just think about it, KaZaA, and the computer manufacturers who add in a CD burner to their computers, they make it jokingly easy to steal music. Of course I'm going to save the money and just get the CD for 10 cents(or whatever a blank CD-R costs.)

Edit: Only 12 dollars? I work almost 2 hours (longer if you factor in taxes) to get the 12 dollars to buy a CD.
 
If you have to save your money, then don't buy stuff. But don't use that as an excuse. Don't use the ease of stealinga s an excuse either. If someone leaves their BMW running with the door open and I drive off with it, it's still stealing. Telling the judge "well I'm justified because it was just so easy" won't help me.

If you want to steal stuff, that's your thing (even thought you are hurting many people - I know this firsthand). But, as low as that is, it's not as pathetic as whining when it doesn't work. If someone tried to mug you and you punched them and ran, what would you think of them complaining about it?
 
I never said that they were wrong for making their music harder to steal, I just said that it pissed me off. Hell, if I was in their shoes, I'd do the same thing. It's the smart way to go about it. But I'm going to keep burning my CDs until they successfully make it impossible for me to burn them, and when that happens...they won, I'll reward them for their efforts by buying music from them again.
 
Good luck getting through the rets of your life with that attitude. Though you'd fit in very well as an employee of New York State, they only do the minimum they have to do to keep from getting fired. I think it fits in very well with your life philosophies.

Just because you CAN doesn't mean you SHOULD. I remember being 16, I saved and bought a CD and listened to it until the songs were burned into my head. You can't possibly enjoy the 50 CDR's as much, you probably won't listen all the way through them...
 
I don't burn CDs that often, and I enjoy them just as much as ones I bought. The last CD I burned hasn't left the CD player of my car for over a month now.

I contridicted myself, sue me. If I had as much money as the big musicians did, I wouldn't give a **** if I lost money because some 16 year old stole my music.

I just rip them using a program called Audio MP3 Maker. You choose where to save them and what quality to rip them at. I usually rip them at a minimum bitrate of 192kbps.
 
CD's at Best Buy are only 12-15 dollars.;) Not expensive at all.:)

Well, the issue at hand isn't so much how much money x and y have as it is what it morally right and wrong.

If I stole something worth 2 cents from a store, would it still be wrong, despite the fact that it doesn't make a single difference to the store? Yes, because stealing is wrong.

The basis of capatilism is to be in an environment where one is allowed fair trade... you're paid what you're worth, you trade your money for what an object is worth, etc.

When you get songs for almost free, does that hurt the artists or the publishing companies, does your one action hurt them? Probably not. That doesn't change the fact that you're not giving them a fair trade, and thus stealing.

It might seem like a little thing, but if everyone had the same mindset, then we'd live in what's called a "socialist" country... and most people would agree that that's not a very desirable thing. ;)

I think that has something to do with the DMCA(Digital Millenium Copyright Act).
 
Yeah I read about it in a magazine a while ago, but I couldn't remember what the hell the technology was called. DCMA, I have never heard of it I think it's only an american thing. The actuall technology has another name for it.
 
It doesn't matter how you try to justify it, it's still theft.

I download albums to audition them. If I like the album, I buy it. If I don't, I delete it. Simple as that.

Oh. I didn't know if you were talking aboout the "law" or the actual technology.
 
I agree. I've downloaded tons of songs lately that are screwed. I also downloaded 4 different songs, and they turn out to be exactly the same song, and also, theyre all just a loop of a part of a song. :mad:
