A picture is worth a thousand words.
The Honda rider was traveling at such a "very high speed", his reaction time was not sufficient enough to avoid this accident. Swedish Police estimate a speed of ~250 KM/h (155mph) before the bike hit the slow moving car side-on at an intersection. At that speed, they predicted that the rider's reaction time (once the vehicle came into view) wasn't sufficient enough for him to even apply the brakes. The car had two passengers and the bike rider was found INSIDE the car with them. The Volkswagen actually flipped over from the force of impact and landed 10 feet from where the collision took place.

All three involved (two in car and rider) were killed instantly. This graphic demonstration was placed at the Stockholm Motorcycle Fair by the Swedish Police and Road Safety Department. The sign above the display also noted that the rider had only recently obtained his license.
At 250 KM (155 mph) the operator is traveling at 227 feet per second. With normal reaction time to SEE-DECIDE-REACT of 16 seconds the above operator would have traveled over 363 feet while making a decision on what actions to take. In this incident the Swedish police indicate that no actions were taken.
Be patient..Imageshack seems slow today with the pictures.

Holy Lord!
Looking at that, there's no way anyone could survive... i mean.... jeez, the bike is in the car! When did this happen?

I dont know when it happend. A friend of mine sent it in an e-mail. It sais above that they all died instantly. I cant even say for sure if its real or not. It is believable though.

This is why I get so pissed when I see internet idjits spouting off about how cool Ghostrider is. This is exactly the way that assclown is going to end his days - and unfortunately, he's probably going to take innocent people with him.

Theres a bike in the car !!:nervous:

That is really unfortunate, i feel sorry for those that were in the car, it doesn't seem quite likely but i hope they did survive.

If I got this wrong correct me.. but driving at those kind of speeds on a road with intersections is not even funny. I mean doing it once a year on an autoroute when no one else is there is one thing, but doing this on a (relatively) small road is amazingly stupid.

I feel really sorry for the two people in the VW Golf. . .

In California, it is legal for motorcycles to ride between lanes on the freeway if traffic is moving less than 35 mph. Having spent the last week down there, I was surprised not to see any accidents like the one above. Some riders are absolutely insane, and will ride between lanes even when traffic is flowing smoothly. Yesterday, some kid on a crotch rocket was darting around at about 90 mph, looking very unstable in the process. Sadly, he'll probably have to be scraped off of the pavement at some point in the future.

Those photos have been posted in just about every motorcycle related forum on the internet, the above pics are a recreation, I believe.

Also lane splitting is legal only in California (maybe Texas now too), but must always be done in a "safe and prudent manner" with the purpose of moving to the front of the line at a stop light or pass stopped/slow moving traffic on the freeway, not to wheelie between moving cars and trucks at 100k/h. This is different from having 2 bikes share a lane.

Wow, I never knew that the bike rider was also found inside of the car? Imagine what a mess that would have looked like.

The way the bike has literally cut through the bottom of the door frame and chassis in the last pic is amazing. I imagine the front wheel would have acted like an aze at such high speeds.

Wow big impact even flipped the car over!

I wonder why the drivers air bag went off on a side impact accident. Most side impact accident pictures I see the front air bags dont deploy.

As far as I know, it is very illegal here. Why? Because our highways are very open and traffic is so spread out it is not needed to travel between lanes. And when traffic is congested, it's not even remotely smart to start riding between lanes for

1)There's most likely an accident above (and police) and traffic does cut it each other off.
2)Well...traffic just does what it wants.

Any time it is done when traffic is not heavy is mostly due to wanting to pass illegally.

And bike riders claim they'll only kill themselves if they hit somebody at high speed. Amazing pics.

I have always said, and will always maintain, that speed bikes or racing bikes or crotch rockets or WHATEVER you want to call them should NOT be street legal. EVERY single person I have EVER seen on a bike like this has been driving dangerously at excessive,y high speeds. These bikes are absolutely inappropriate for modern-day traffic and anyone who is injured or killed while riding one of them deserved what he or she got.

The Prime WILL NOT go back on his opinion concerning this matter. I have seen a very good friend get very injured on a bike like this. And you know what? He deserved it. He was stupid and a macho jock who wanted to show off for the ladies and ended up wrecking his bike and almost ruining the rest of his life.

What if he was driving responsibly, but a car comes speeding down the road, and hit the bike and kills the biker? You still think the biker deserves that?

Hey wait, that bike isn't wearing its seat belt!!!

In all seriousness though, the driver seat hanging out the door says it all. I'd hate to be anyone involved in that accident. :scared:

They used to display stuff like this in service areas/rest areas in Japan, when I was a kid. They'll have a big sign that said something about don't drive too fast or something like that. I was very amused, but my parents wouldn't let me look at them. Oh, well.

Edit: 👍 to Duke's "assclown" comment.

omg...thats unbelievable...

my brother inlaw had a honda like that...

he was going around a corner, biek skipped sideways, hit a telephone pole, flew 60 feet and ended up living...thank god...

Ouch, where were those photo's taken at? Seems like a convention of some kind. Either way that's certainally an eye opener. :scared:

Very horrific crash. Sadly, very few will learn from this and merely look at the accident as a novelty, rather than a warning.

Here, there are far too many dangerous bike owners/riders. It's a shame they take innocent lives just like that. It's disgusting, really.

Ah yeah woops, I should really stop and read the actual post sometime. :dunce:

Still, ouch.
:scared:

'

Sorry about this but those pics from the Fair, being a reconstruction, would entail they had to remove the bike from the interior before the could access the remains in the flipped shell. Then put it back for the demo.

Not a pleasant task:sick:

Always lovey to see what could possibly happen to me.

Awesome. (not really.)

Can't say it will change my riding attitude. As stupid as it may sound, at least I am smart enough to admit it. Not trying to be cocky, I just know what can happen when you start riding. I usually (usually being the key word) do it (it being driving stupidly) in rual locations. I figure if I do something stupid then I am the only one that should pay. But, don't think I don't get a little pissy when someone in a car has no mind to pay attention, and look around them before just assuming they can have my lane.

Let everyone be pissed off at me, and say how they can't believe I would ride in such a way....... NOW.

It's a risk we all take while riding.

How we ride must always be judged on the road conditions.

Also, he'd never get 155 out of that bike, it's a VFR400. 135 or so. But it's probably enough...

Actually if I ever get killed by car accident, this would be the type I'd prefer. Instantanious. Not pinned in a twisted car, conscious, bleeding to death while waiting for help to come.

And I have to disagree strongly with you, Anderton. I know many people who ride/have ridden crotch rockets who do so in a fast, but safe manner. They know their limits and their bike's limits, and know not to be stupid. The actions of the few should NEVER ruin the fun of the many.

While it's all well and good that you can admit that, and whilst it would be nice that if only the rider would pay the consequences of their riding, you're still endangering other people's lives, and this thread clearly shows what happens.

If you're doing 10-20 km/h over the speed limit, you definitely know your limits, and it's a relatively quiet and safe road, then I'm not fussed. But I've seen motorbike riders going nuts on busy, conjested roads, or around housing estates with a lot of people (mostly parents and their children) walking around, or driving to and from their homes. This is where it gets on my nerves.

As long as you aren't endangering anyone else, I couldn't care less if you smack yourself into a hard object at 150 km/h.

Really? His motorcycle accident and resultant injuries mean higher insurance premiums for everyone as well as the cost associated with him missing work, in terms of productivity and actual costs of replacing him.

Not to mention if someone gets killed (even if they just killed them self) on the road the government wants to reduce speed limits even more than they already have and increase speed cameras, they will add extra revenue raising speed cameras with any excuse (Well this applies for South Australia anyway not sure about the rest of the world).
