i was just using my toyota minolta race car to do the 24 hour endurance race the other day.. and b4 the race i changed the oil to ensure i got the highest possible horsepower.. i found that it could go over 1200HP

now after the 24 hour endurance.. i checked the horsepower again... and it was 1135 or sth arond there... so i changed the oil again.. only to find that i couldn't get 1200 again... the highest i could get was just 1195! then i did another race... and it went down to 1194... i changed oil yet again.. but this time even worse.. it wouldn't even go over 1194HP...

does anybody know the answer to this problem? or does ur car in GT4 simply deteriorate slowly the more u use it? :ouch: thx...

I have the same problem with my pescarolo, but I've got no idea how to solve it:grumpy:

If you drive a car at race speeds for 24 hours straight it does things to the engine that an oil change won't completely resolve.

There's an excellent thread detailing this somewhere but I also can't be bothered to find it :)

Someone did some excellent testing to show that the max. power gradually dropped until the car had travelled 8500 miles. Then it stayed constant after each oil change, whereupon I believe it settles at the value that the secondhand cars can achieve.

The only way to get back to "new" power is to buy / win a new car.

thanks alot! :)

one more question.. when u say 'value' do u mean the selling price?

No, I believe he means the horsepower value.

Rumor had it that the 'chassis refresh' also included an engine rebuild but I have no idea if that was confirmed or denied for sure.

oh where do u find that option?

Does the cars not just lose HP permanently after like a few 100 miles ? This is what happens I think ...

The same thing in GT3 ...

THe chassis refresh has no effect on the engine horsepower. Over time the car will lose 5% of its power (from what was said previously the full 5% of forsepower will gone at 8500 miles). The oil change will restore a maximum of 5% of the cars actual horsepower for the mileage at the oil change.

I don't think that's the case Duke. I have many extremely high mileage cars that have experienced power loss along with multiple frame refreshes. When the frame was refreshed the HP wasn't effected, I was only able to regain HP through an oil change.

Sounds like it's a myth that's been busted, then. My highest mileage car has about 165 miles on it, so I haven't been in a position to investigate. Thanks.

165 miles? You obviously haven't attacked any endurances yet. Have you even had to refresh a car yet?

OK, it works like this:

Firstly, oil changes confuse the issue, so we need to remove them from the reckoning. To do this, assume you always look at the horsepower figure immediately after changing the oil. The horsepower figure will then be at its highest immediately after purchasing the car. To simplify things, this power figure will steadily decrease as your mileage increases. After 8500 miles, this figure will settle as a 5% reduction of the original figure, and will return to this value after every oil change. No further reduction will be experienced.

Chassis refresh does not affect the engine and therefore power. Chassis refresh affects the handling characteristics of a high mileage car. It's available in the tuning menu for the car, next to the weight reduction options.

When I said value, I did not mean the selling price. However, the selling price does indeed reduce with mileage as well. I have not seen any studies revealing the rules that govern the car's sell price.

Apart from the sell price issue, I learnt all of this from reading this excellent forum 👍

I think GT Auto should have a car maintennance shop where you can get your engine rebuilt, amoung other things.

In real life I beleive this is done on a regular basis. Maybe GT5?

I wish there were ways to swap engines out on cars. I put 300+ miles on every car I get just tuning it to the way I like them. Took 375 to get my Corvette Stingray L46 to be more stable. I can do the ring with that 570HP beauty in 6:48 :dopey:

I also wish there was more types of super chargers. I want to put a blower on my cuda :indiff: .

No, which is why I said it was rumor that the engine rebuild was part of the refresh. Actually I have one used car that has substantial mileage on it, but I only put about 100 of those on it.

I haven't done any enduros and I don't like to run more than one series in any given car, so my mileage gets fairly distributed. Plus I'm only about 8% or so into the game, despite getting it on US opening day.
