Host questions - no qualify ?

Hello all. I am new to this forum and was searching amongst 15 pages for some hours but could not find and answer to my questions. I realize how annoying newbies sometimes can be but i sincerely tried to find the answers first.

I am playing and loving the game a lot but there are some things that I cannot see. I am aware that sometimes people think that annoying things will be changed in coming updates. But sometimes the developers have no idea since no one is making any remarks. That is the reason why i was first searching through this forum.

I found this part of the forum with the suggestions:
https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/board/features.341/

I noticed however that almost nobody is using this ? And you should only post one suggestions per thread. Seems strange that I would be needing to spam that subforum instead of making 1 post. Can any mod inform me ? Also strange that the (almost empty) suggestions section is not specific for GT sport. How would the developers than take notice of my points ? Some imput would be welcome.

I am playing a lot as a host for a league of players in Holland from a car enthusiastics forum.

A. My points and problems dealing with as a host:

1. NO QUALIFY ?

First is a major problem from which I don’t understand why nobody is mentioning this or how I am missing any discussions about this point. I cannot find the QUALIFY option in private lobbies. When I start a private lobby I can only choose:

- Practice/Race
- Practice/Endurance Race
- Free run

There should be an option here Practice/Qualifier/Race. When I go to the online manual I can find the option in the text:

gnHlr9M1.jpeg

What makes it even stranger is that in the Dutch manual the “qualify” option which is called “kwalificatie” has been deleted from the manual section. Here the old manual and the new manual probably after the 1.10 update:

wk4K9kKV.jpeg

I am aware of the GT sport Undocumented changes thread. I could not find this change. It also seems odd to me why a developer is not being a little more open about the “unnoticed” changes.

https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/threads/gt-sport-undocumented-changes-thread-1-10.372183/

What am I missing here ? Is it possible that the quali time is now created in the free run section ? It was not like that. You couldnt even track the times at first. How on earth would you be able to use the function “fastest first” or “slowest first” if there is no qualify option. This seems more arcade than Racing. Since there are a lot of online leagues here with self created rooms I cannot see how this goes past me. Or is there a change in the open lobby section which I am missing ? Or is the problem only occuring with friends lobbies ?

2. FIXED ROOM OWNERSHIP

As a host I sometimes cannot host all evening and would like the room ownership to pass on the next if I leave. That seems only possible in open lobbies and not with friends lobbies. What is the difference and logic here ? If someones internet connections is not good to host it would be simple to skip that person and go to the next. Or that the host could decide who would be the new room owner ? Any solution to this or plans to change it in an update ?

3. A 1 MAKE CAR RACE IN LOBBY

As a host I would be able to chose a 1 make race as I could in GT5. Instead of asking the group to buy this or that car I want to be able to chose that car as a host. Like a true cup race and not only fixed weight. Where it was strange that you can only maximise and minimise the weight value but as I understand correctly this issue is already mentioned here. I can of course chose the N200 but that is not solving it.

The tuning option can be forbidden now in the lobby with the new update. So this was a long awaited change so good the developers are really listening ! Hope they change this also.

B. My personal questions and suggestions as a player

Here is a little list of my own wishes which seem easy to apply and from which some of them were in GT5:

1. Being able to sell every car. Even when I won this car. Just give me half the money.
2. Not winning the same car. There are some cars I won 4 times and some cars never. It would ne nice and easy to implement this since all is online and tracked already. Especially now option 1 is not possible.
3. TCS should be able to put to 0 for ever for who wants it. It is getting very annoying to change this setting in all missions and circuits. It works with your private garage I notice. Why not with the rest ? Changing it every time from 3 to 0 is getting a little bit frustrating since it is very useless. Just remember my setting. If I want to change it depending on car or track I can do it myself but most of the times I want 0.
4. Would it be possible on the pedels of my steering wheel to have the gas pedal function as X as it used to do in GT5 ? And the brake pedal as O would be very nice to go quicker through the menu’s.
5. I always drive in cockpit mode but sometimes the screen really is too small. I saw a change to the LaFerrari. Is there an option that I am missing to change the camera position within the cockpit ? So that I can + or - the view more suitable to my wishes ?
6. Deleting the steering wheel as in other race games would be nice but this would require more than a simple update im afraid. I just love more to look at my own steering wheel and hands but remain to have a dashboard an cockpit view. I also have a great position for this with my tv.

Should I need to post these individual questions as separate threads in the abovementioned section i would be glad to do so if a mod can let me know that this indeed is needed.

Thanks all and happy online Racing with this great game 👍

I expect they just haven't implemented it yet, hopefully it will come, I think I remember qualifying in previous version of GT online lobby races.

The fastest first does work, it relies on people completing the out lap and a full lap to register, it's the first thing I do when I join an open lobby, if the host allows time before starting the race.
Slowest first doesn't work so well because people who just joined the lobby will start first.

I used to like reverse grids of previous race, but in GTS lobbies people tend to leave after one race, I guess it's still early days and people are seeking money rather than just enjoying the game.

Once PD feel they have fixed the other big issues and got a FIA season done, they will probably get around to all the other little niggles.

Lol I had a flashback to school exams

My eyes went straight to question 1. And I used up all my time answering that. I tried to do a catch all reply to appease the threader.

I just read question 2. As a workaround If friends are getting together, get the guy with the best internet to host. Or host an open lobby with Private in the title and kick people that join and refuse to leave when asked. However you may meet like minded racers to join in and become psn friends.

Thanks JacksHerer. And sorry for the long story :)

For all the others in short: there is no qualify in online lobby as far as I can see.

My first question was how nobody seems to notice the lack of qualifying or start a thread about it ? Or is it only the crazy Dutch people who start online lobbies in closed rooms (friends only) ? I thought there were online leagues here on GT planet where these issues surely should be noticed earlier ?

My second question was if the rest of the players here share the same issues and questions and problems as I have stated above in points 1-6. After getting these answers and comfirmation I come to the last question:

How can I best contact the developers to inform them or let them know ? Thus asking some mods or other posters if I indeed need to start spamming the suggestions-thread.

Would be nice if we could come to a sort of solution from which we can all enjoy in future updates. Especially when implementation is simple. This would never happen if there is no mutual agreement among the players. Waiting for others to report usually doesnt work. If I look at the wished new cars and tracks and the voting system I can imagine a developer would look at this and base their decision upon these results. This seems to work well here. Would like to see this on more points 👍

No this doesnt work like that. If it would be like this I would not make a problem. We could just consider Practice as qualifying. Same thing but different name.

The starting grid in practice/race is based on entrance. Whoever enters first in the room will be placed first. Thus the host starts first. Driving around in practice only registrates your time but not as a qualify time.

It could have been changed in the last week since we have not had a race because of the Christmas brake. But I can assure you driving around in practice was not affecting any times.

5. I always drive in cockpit mode but sometimes the screen really is too small. I saw a change to the LaFerrari. Is there an option that I am missing to change the camera position within the cockpit ? So that I can + or - the view more suitable to my wishes ?
I found out today that there already is an option for altering the dashboard camera position up/down and zoom in/out. So very pleased about that option.

Still no real answers regarding the lack of qualifying.

I too noticed this in the online manual. It almost seems like they copied the manual from GT6. This was a feature in GT6. Perhaps it is coming down the road. There was something else I noticed that was from GT6 but I can not remember what it was.

Here is what you can do to act as qualifying. After you run the practice session be sure to set the race regulations to Fastest First. Then reset the lobby. What I mean by that is load a different track. Then reload the track you are racing at. This will wipe out anyone's lap times. Then you re-load the track you want to race and run a practice session for the time you want. Then start the race. I used this many times in GT6 because once the qualifying session was started no one else could join if they joined the lobby after the qualifier was started. This way if they turn up late they can just grab their car and still make the race when you start it. I hope this helps you out. If I was not clear feel free to message me here or on PSN (Obi-Tonobi).

Thank you for your reply ! I thought there were online competitions here and more people must have complaints about this.

I understand perfectly what you are saying and indeed this is a great tip. I will do this from now on 👍

What I also dont understand is that the lobby grid order option does not work properly for “host decides”. You can choose fastest/slowest first or pos/neg outcome of the last race. These work well. However since the qualify option is not implemented yet, you would think you need to choose the option that the host decides the grid order. At least the first race. If you choose this option however there is no way that you can choose the grid order as a host. I reported this in the bug section. Or am I missing something here as well ? Probably not or you would suggest this option to me.

Does anybody have any news about the lack of qualify ?

PD does not usually give any insight to what changes or content may be coming until the update has been implemented and then the update notes list what changes were installed, content added if any and bugs identified and fixed.

Trying to find out what or some changes may or may not occur is generally not going to happen with this game in advance of the changes being installed.

Need to just wait and keep your fingers crossed that what you want to see is included in a future update.

That pretty much sounds as the real and (gamingwise) harsh truth ...
Speaking of harsh, to be honest I'm not sure what the issue is here.

I understand that there isn't technically a "qualifying" period option.
But swap the word "practice" with "qualifying" and it works as it should.

As already suggested, if you wish to hold a lobby session with practice and then qualifying, all that is need to be done is set the room to "Fastest first" and after practice do a quick reset of "practice" times via a change to a lobby setting, eg. Gr. category. (then revert back).

It works fine.
It's just that the terminology you want isn't there.

He didn’t remember the practice times at first. For the rest you are right the effect would be the same if that works. But was also hoping for the 1-car-make option and the minimum weight option.

Fair enough.

But yes, it all works.
Fastest first works.
We've had false starts where people have been stuck in autodrive.
We all quit, the host sets the room the "Set by host " and resets the grid in order, and we try again.
And once the serious race is over we swap it to "Reverse grid" for some fun races where the guys who didn't fair so well get to start on the front row for the next race.

As for one-make events, sure, a great option that would be good to see. (Although easily organised and monitored by the host)
The minimum weight thing seems a little moot to me without a maximum HP option.
May as well stick with BoP on that one.

Setting the grid by the host doesnt seem to work. Do I miss that option ? I can choose the option but I cannot see where I can manually change the grid.

Also all need to quit the race. Why can’t the host chose a RESTART ? Or do I miss this as well ?

Thanks for helping me out !

Unfortunately I'm unable at this time to describe the "Set by host" process as I can't recall it accurately enough, and I can't easily experiment with it on the spot to give you the correct directions.
But I can tell you it works as it should, and I've even seen it work on YouTube streams without it needing a "false start" to implement properly.
Just straight up, "these are the drivers in the room, I'll grid them up in this order."

And yes, you are correct.
Once the race has started it requires all drivers to quit before any other action can be taken.
There is no over-riding option for the host to restart a race whenever they choose.

Are you not mistaken with GT6 regarding the grid set by the host ? Would be nice to hear from you whenever you have time to check this for me. I also looked for YouTube video’s but was not able to find it. I am pretty sure it does not work, although its function should be implemented whilst the option “by the host”.

RESTART option hopefully in an update. Was there in GT5 as I can remember.

If you are questioning if the function exists, I can assure you it does.

From memory, when the people in the lobby are ready to race, as the lobby host you go to the top left hand corner and enter the "Race Settings" menu.
In there there is an option for something like "Set grid order".
But as I say, I don't recall the finer details.

On your other point, personally I hope that function is never implemented.
I can only see it being abused, and it's simple enough to manoeuvre around anyway.

In joining an unknown lobby maybe. But in semi-pro leagues trust of the host is basic. If you can trust him to start something you can trust him to stop something. Abusement is punished by leaving that host. And maybe red labeling him. That said I do understand your concern, what could be the reason behind this choice.

I will check once again that grid option. Thought I had checked it all so good to hear I didn’t. Thanks !

Yep, agreed.
But an option for one is an option for all.

And just as you may find a clown who refuses to quit a race, you will also find a host clown who didn't like his start and will abort.

As I say, there are already ways around these things.
I'm happy enough with the current options.
You may of course hold a different view.

Host decides option works for me. Don't use it much since it always starts the host first unless you move the players around yourself. I use fastest first and reverse grid for most of my races. If running a variety of races in an open lobby I leave it on reverse grid. This puts the players that ran in the back up front for the next race. Mixes up the field, lets the slower ones get to start races, and makes the faster ones have to actually race and pass cars to win instead of always being out front running by them selves.

You have to set it for Fastest First, then your practice time counts and the one with the fastest lap time will start the race and so on down the line. New comer at the last minute will start last.

I don't use it much but you have to go to Race Settings in the upper left corner and then select Change Grid Order.

Let's say I started a Practice/Endurance Lobby and give the drivers 15mins to set a lap then I screenshot the order and set the grid based on that will it work?

This will all be in the same lobby of course.

I would reset the lobby to wipe out everyones time. Then set your cell phone timer for 15 min then start the race. Set the race for fastest first

What do you mean by setting my timer for 15mins?

How would I go about using fastest first as previous attempts have failed.

Yes this will work. You can set the grid manually.
