Hosting but not racing...

I was trying to help of my friends the other day with a dedicated GT6 server. He wants to setup his PS3 to host online races frequently, but not join them. I guess he doesn't use the PS3 or GT6 much anymore, but likes the idea of running a very strict room (full damage, etc.) and just letting that hang around for those few extremely clean drivers who prefer full damage and other "difficult" settings (no ABS, yadda yadda). What we discovered is that unless he enters a race himself, the auto-start timer won't activate even if other people join the race? Then the auto-timed start will never activate again even if other's join the lobby and attempt to race. Is that correct? Is his only option to enter the race and then just let his car sit there? Thanks for any help you can offer!

Couldn't he leave the race after it's started? And just sit around the lobby and watch? Or he could sit beside the track and flash his lights at people lol.

As long as someone finishes the race the timer will reset.

Well, that's a real bummer. His idea was just to setup and nice server for people to race on and then walk away and leave the server running 24/7 and then changing it up like once a week. But if the auto starts turn themselves off if nobody joins the race, or turns themselves off if nobody finishes, then that obviously won't work. Maybe PD should just release a dedicated server app for PCs...

What's the purpose of the auto start if you have to be there to watch it anyway... Makes no sense, but then there has always been a bit of nonsense in this series, guess we just have to live with it.

I think there are too many knuckleheads to just let a room run without a host. It only takes one idiot to ruin everyones experience. Someone has to be there to kick that guy out.

My advice would be to build a large friend base and make the room private. If GT6 is like GT5, then anyone can start the race.

Unfortunately Panjan, from my experience of trying to find people to race against who like the sort of settings you're talking about your friend could leave the thing running for a week and no race would start, because there'd never be two people in the room at once.

Seriously, I have spent many a solitary hour entertaining myself by lapping different motors against each other in a room with regs like that. Very, very occasionally a person will pop in, and then pop out again without even getting in a motor.

Your mate is missing out on nothing, because there's no one out there to serve.

Cheers, Zo.

We're out there, unfortunately not at the same time it seems. I run into the same issues; either nobody enters the room, or they pop-in and pop-out after a few seconds. Today I had a Nordschleife room open for an hour with the title "open track SS or less 600 PP max" and one person entered and left. Maybe the 100% wet conditions wasn't appealing. Who knows.

On the other hand, sometimes I'm not looking for a race and want an open "Free Run" cruise lobby where people try out different cars and try to set their best lap times. In those occasions I just like working around the traffic. There's been a room or two like that, but the best one was ruined by a hooligan in a Red Bull ramming everyone off the road. Needless to say, everyone left (me included).
