Hosting Lobbies and Club Rooms

Okay so it's not a major problem, but it happened at the worst possible time. I was participating in a hour long Endurance at Spa with 6 other players. I was leading 30 minutes in by a lap then suddenly I disconnected. Now I do disconnect every now and again in public lobbies after like 4-5 hours but after disconnecting from my own lobby, I'm a little paranoid about my next championship race.

My question is, is it a dumb idea to host Championships and Endurance races with fixed host status? I heard fixed host status provides a more stable lobby/room and less disconnections ( I could be wrong )

Also, My NAT Type is Type 2 and my Bandwidth is usually listed as Very High.

Would I be alright hosting an Endurance event with fixed host status or am I just overreacting?

Just happens sometimes. I usually run my lobbies with race quality high and voice standard. I have also run the both set to standard with no noticeable difference. The downside to fixed host is if you are the host and get a disconnect it will close the whole room down and everyone's race is jacked up.

Switching to Google DNS or OpenDNS servers can help too. Had a few members getting disconnects and this helped them. Your ISP providers DNS can be too slow sometimes causing you to get a disconnect. Try the following. It won't hurt anything and might help. I use them and it seems to be more stable. I have Time Warner Cable and they even recommended this too me.

Go to the XBM Menu
Network Settings
Internet Connection Settings
OK
Custom
Wired or Wireless (wired is preferred if you can)
Auto-Detect
IP Address Setting = Automatic
DHCP = Do Not Set
DNS Setting = Manual
Primary DNS = 208.67.222.222 is OpenDNS and 8.8.8.8 is Google DNS
Secondary DNS = 208.67.220.222 is OpenDNS and 8.8.4.4 is Google DNS
MTU = Automatic
Proxy Server = Do Not Use
MTU = Automatic
UPnP = Enable
Press X to save

Hope this helps you

I'm gonna try this!

As an example, last night I was my son and I were getting unusual disconnects at the same time, he was on GTA V and me GT6. Happened three times in a row. Switch both of us to Google from Open and problem was gone. We were both on Open since a few months ago the same thing happened while we were on Google. Might be a good idea to have both printed out so you can switch back and forth if needed. I have no proof other than it seems to work for us. I have no technical data to back anything up. You can however read up on DNS servers online.

I don't know much about the technical side, but I've been hosting championships every week since GT5. I have always avoided Fixed Host because of the potential to shut down the room and ruin everyone's online experience rather than just my own.

My advice is to avoid fixed host and make sure you have at least one Deputy Host who is ready to take over if you have a problem (I have three so that there is always at least one present).

I reduce the race quality to three stars regardless of whether the game wants to set it at four or five. With GT5 I used to have voice enabled, but with GT6 I run with voice disabled as at first I had a lot of problems with disconnections. Some people disable the game music as they find this helps with stability.

Good luck and happy hosting!
