Hello all, here's a hot lap challenge I thought of. The purpose is to achieve the best lap time you can achieve with the car and track and within the rules I list here.

The Track used: Apricot Hill

Cars eligible for this challenge:

Since this is the "dream car" challenge, I thought we'd use the cars that the AI runs in the Dream Car Challenge race in amateur and professional league, for one exception (the ZZ-II). Another reason is that these cars are all pretty even in specs so you could expect some close times. So, these are the cars you can use:

:honda: Honda S2000 LM Race Car
:subaru: Subaru Impreza LM Race Car
:toyota: Toyota Altezza LM Race Car
:mitsu: Mitsubishi FTO LM Race Car
:mazda: Mazda RX-7 LM Race Car

More rules:

- You car must be stock. The only thing you can buy for your car is the oil change.

- It doesn't matter how much mileage your car has.

- Since all these cars come with medium tyres, those are the tyres you'll be using.

- When you are driving, you must keep at least 2 wheels of your car on track at all times.

- You are allowed to change your car's settings freely.

- Use the Run & Settings to achieve your time.

After you have achieved your time, please post it here along with the car you used. You can use any and all the cars allowed.

This challenge is free for everyone to attend to!

The Prize for the best time: Endless glory and fame in the GTP forums.

One last thing, have fun! :)

Top 5 laps:

Earth 1'11.425 +1.102 Honda S2000 LM

JoniK 1'11.608 +1.285 Mazda RX-7 LM

I like this challenge.

The stock horsepower and tyres is very intriguing to me.

Ill give it a go when I have the time

OK first time with 600 HP (after oil change) RX-7 LM Race Car

Seems like a good time. I'll have to run some laps when I have a chance!

I took out the S2000 LM Race Car last night, and run some laps with it.

The best lap I could achieve so far is:

1'11.734.

Can anyone beat that? I'll be trying some other cars in the future.

Great time Jonik

Looks like I'll have to go back to the wheel again :D

You beat me! :D Great time Earth!

Looks like this is becoming a 1-on-1 challenge, no one else seems to be participating. What's the matter people, don't have the cars? You can win the cars eligible in the Amateur Altezza Race (Altezza LM) and the amateur Dream Car Championship (the rest).

I just had to take out the S2000 LM Race Car again, after you beat my time with it. I ran about 15 laps, best I could manage:

1'11.022

I ran this last night in the S2000 LM. Haven't had a chance to adjust any of the settings, and it was my first time ever running this car. I managed to eek out 5 laps around the course.

Best time was a sloppy 1'15.038. 4+ seconds off the pace, but with loads of room for imporvement. I have the chance tomorrow night to tweak it, and come back with a good attempt on Thursday morning.

To quote Arnold..."I'll be back"

AO

Great to hear someone else is also trying this, Der Alta. Maybe if a few people more took part in this, I could include the top three times in my initial post.

And again you beat me, Earth. I was so close to getting an under 1'11 lap time, but you beat me to it. The challenge lives on 😈

I know of 4 places on the track that I can shave time. I figure a second per spot, and a bit more smoooooth through out, I can get nearer to the mark. I've only got the Spoon LM car at the moment (have old saved game backed up though...) so I'm trying to make do with it. Wait am minute....I have the Altezza Too...

I've (almost) made it through the game 3 times (edging on 78% currently) and am looking for additional challenges.

Like running the Elise 190 in the elise trophy...

Thursday morning....I'll post better times, and how I did it.

AO

Edit: I checked for a lap time in the Altezza on Apricot hill. It was the GT world Championship - Amateur. I managed a 1'18.997 but was bumping against the Viper the whole time. I might be able to shave 8 seconds off without traffic, and more than a few test laps. i also found a 1'17.880 on the dream car championship - Amateur. Again with traffic.

Thursday....

I wanted some change, so I took out the Altezza LM Race Car.

Best lap: 1'12.291.
I couldn't get rid of all the understeer.

Then I tried the FTO LM Race Car. With It I ran 1'12.797.

The car was pushing a little when accelerating out of corners. Definetely room for improvement with both cars.

OK...It's Thursday Morning.

After 4 1/2 hours of Boston Commuter Traffic yesterday, I wasn't up to par with my racing skills. I took the Altezza out and tried to smooth out my laps, and better my time.

Managed a 1'14.972.

So I switched over to the S2000 LM. After the oil change, I was pushing 616hp. (Brand new car). I was able to race and get my best time to 1'11.891. I need to tweak the gearing a bit as I crossed the finish line at 159mph, and I know from experience that it could be up around 162-163. I also know of 2 other spots that I can shave +0.200 seconds. So my best time might possibly be somewhere around 1'11.5XX.

So, Guys, where am I losing the battle? Can you guys possibly pass on your settings to me? Or better yet, shark port and upload/e-mail your best lap ot me so that I have a bench mark?

This being my third trip through the game, I'm running low on challenges. I'm nearing 80% and it's mainly Professional level, and1/2 of the enduro's to do.

Thanks.
AO

I would give you my sector times, but I dont have a replay of the time, it is under records because during a 20 lap run I ran a 1'10.775 but it wasnt clean (I got 4 tyres on the grass). Insteand of restarting I continued on fursterated. I eventually got a 1'10.987 after another 7 or so laps. When I went to save it the game would only save the 1'10.775 lap.

Illl tell you how I handled the course. Take turn 1 hard, brake late and stay to the left of the turn as much as possible coming out. Turn 2 is a sharp right hander that can be negotiated at around 100 mph. Turn 3 is a leaning left hander that can be tooken at full throttle. Stay to the left on turn three which will set you up for turn 4. This is a tricky turn. You can gain or lose a lot of time here. At one time I actually made this corner at full throttle. If you take it around 115-120 mph you are in good shape. Turn 5 is a long and fast sweeping left hander. Take a big apex here. Try to get two tires on the rumble strip, the strip usually grabs your tires and pulls you around the corner. Try not to go slower then 123-125 through his corner.

Turn 6 is a tight hairpin. I shifted down to 3 rd gear and followed a simple U line through this turn. After a quick left right there is turn 7, a left hander that is surprisingly sharp. Make sure you have 2 tires on the rumble strip on this turn. Then the S. I use to think getting 2 tires on the sand didnt hurt my lap time but helped it, but it doesnt. Keep all tire out of the sand and negotiate the corner in a way that favors good exit speed. Then you are full throttle after that.

As for the settings, I will have to ask the guy who sets up my cars if I can give the settings out.

When I get the time Ill redo the lap in the s2000 lm race car and better my time and save it so I can post the sector times.

Btw, when this challenge started, my s2000 had 0 zero miles. Now it has 270

Time to test the remaining untested cars.....
I ran some furious laps with the RX-7, the best being 1'11.608. This car seems to have as much potential as the S2000 LM.

Then, the Impreza LM. Having the worst weight/power ratio, I didn't except much of it. I didn't ran as much laps with it, since it was so late night. Best lap: 1'13.686.

I'm sure I could improve both laps by at least half a second.

Now that all of the cars have been tested, to me it seems that the S2000 LM is the best of the bunch. The second best would seem to be the RX-7 LM. Or maybe it's just me.

Thanks for the fun run guys, and the pointers as well.

I unfortunately have to check out of hte challenge now. My GT3 time has been cut to nil for the next week....Ahhhh, Married life...

I'll keep checkin gback though...

Yes the rx lm mazda car, i got a 1'12.5 with it, but it seems you are quite a bit quicker with it. Ill try putting my s2000lm set up on it and see if it helps it

When I get the time I will try all the cars.

I took my S2000 LM back to Apricot Hill, since that car seems the best for me. I ran about 30 laps with no improvement to my previous record lap. Then I started to slowly get my touch back, and after 60+ sweaty (it was a very hot day) laps and 2 oil changes, my best lap was:

1'10.323

Sector times, taken from the saved replay:

T1 0'11.222
T2 0'23.165
T3 0'47.969

In the end of the saved replay, it shows me a lap time of 1'10.286.... Weird!

Oh man this isnt good .7 faster!

I dont even know if its worth trying to beat that.

Jonik me and GTS-R Man need a team mate in a jmr's competition.

You seem very good and fast. Will you sign up with us?

Hmm, I'll have to see. I'll check jmr's thread more closely and think about it for a few days, if that's ok? When's the deadline?
