I've been trying to get a good time on the Le Mans hot lap rivals challenge, but i've hit a wall, or at least, something that rather dampens the fun.

Every time i go off the track i get the 'invalid lap' symbol tacked on - Understandable. What i don't understand is how going off ever so slightly on the first chicane invalidates the next lap aswell. If i go off ever so slightly in that lap it invalidates the next, and so i can't actually get a time at all untill i restart and meticulously drive the track perfectly in a lap that doesn't even count - Or it can't count since i need a flying lap to beat my current rival.

Frustrating.

Is there something else i'm missing or is this how it's supposed to be?

That said, currently i'm on 3:37 but i see people who've done 3:24 without any aides - Is this the difference between a controller and a wheel?

The best thing to do is to restart, reverse of the line at the start and go back through the last chicane and turn round and when you cross the start line you will start a clean lap, you can even go back further and warm your tyres up just make sure you dont go off track or when you start your lap it will be invalidated

Still kind of odd, if flying laps are allowed/encouraged to set lap times, why not do a flying start before the last chicane?

I thought it was dumb too until I realized the same "time attack mode" of gameplay applies to the Top Gear Test Track, where standing starts are the benchmark. "That other game" automatically starts with a flying lap on the TGTT, and that's definitely worse.

So FM4 gives us options. It just happens to be a silly roundabout way to avoid programming a menu toggle. This game is lacking quite a few menu options.

So some tracks/challenges give you a flying start, others a standing start? And it would be togglable for custom lobbies/free racing. Not that hard to do imho ;p

Perhaps the discipline required for the 2-year release cycle involves concentrating on finishing a list, rather than following spur-of-the-moment ideas.
