A recent politician in South Boston was just ordered to repay money to the state for violation she committed during his previous 3 years in the system.

It took an independent panel of 4 people 18 months to sort out what violations were made, and to what extent the politician had violated the laws.

All total, the politician has to return $9000 that was donated illegally to his campaign. $6000 of that went to charity, $1500 went back to the state and $1500 was returned to the companies making illegal donations.

So I’m left feeling good knowing that 4 people worked 18 months to sort that out. Unless these people were making $20.83 per month (4 people, 18 months, $1500), I’d say the state screwed themselves. That means with 20 working days each month, these people made $1 per day. And that doesn’t even take into account overhead such as office, printing, computers, mileage, and a host of other things.

So at what point did we really need this?

Kinda reminds me of the Whitewater investigation. 7+ years, and all we know is that Mr. Clinton got a bit of head and a smelly cigar. Why did we need to spend all that money to figure that out?

And when the dust settles, it’s always the tax payer left holding the bag.

And it's never a money bag, either.
