How can you guys put up with huge flappy paddles so close to a wheel?

My first wheel was a DFGT and while it has many flaws, I just cannot understand how people can use wheels like the G25/G27 with massive flappy paddles in the way. At leas I cannot see myself doing it.

I feel like I will either cut my hands of or I will rip the paddles out intentionally. They are just so close to the wheel and give me no room to work the wheel.

I love the force feedback of the G27, the smoothness the quietness, its a whole new dimension toward realism over my rough noisy DFGT which feels like the car you are driving is has rocks in the steering component, but there's no way I would pick another wheel over it because it allows me to grip the wheel so comfortably and turn it however I want without worrying

Yes I have given the G27 a good try I always end up hitting the paddles even close to cutting myself. It makes me concentrate more on holding the wheel a certain way avoiding the blades than car control.

However the paddles on the DFGT are too small and cumbersome/hard to press, so that is not ideal either.

I would rather the DFGT design, but with slightly larger plastic or rubber paddles. Similar to G27 shape but kind of like a midget version and a LOT further back and close to the middle of the wheel.

Is there any wheels that would suit me for people who understand what I mean about the in the way paddles?

You must have one a heck of a set of mits on ya! With most wheels, the padels move with the wheel. I'm trying to figure out how you could "cut" your hands on them.

Hands like this?

:)

Seriously though, I really can't understand your issue. There's plenty of room for your hands and the paddles turn with the wheel. I wouldn't call the paddles huge either... Do you do some sort of crazy drifting? :)

More importantly is it true what they say about a guy with big hands?

Stones, I dont actually break my skin causing bleeding but I cause harm by moving past the paddles really fast with the back of my hand and fingers and smacking into it at high speed. Make a really sudden movement and smack the back of your hand into the tip or the bottom of the blade on the ANGLE, not on the flat side.

Lol No I don't have big hands at all, probably average. No crazy drifting required, I like to push the car and that seems to make me spin and handle the wheel quickly. I prefer not having to avoid the paddles or imo blades lol when doing so.

But the funny thing is even on a straight they are in the way for me. If I hold the g27 normally on a straight I cant even open and close my fingers without hitting the paddles. Sometimes I Like to keep my fingers open in corners and I cannot cos the blades are I in the way. I also like re gripping the wheel and cant do that either.

lol looking at it again, sheesh They are HUGE.

Had a G27 for a year and a half and I have never once touched the paddles accidentally. I only every touch them when I'm shifting. Your problem with the paddles seems to come from an unorthodox way of handling the wheel. Therefore, the answer to you question is simple; we can put up with the paddles where they are because we don't handling the wheel they way you do.

Interesting that you complain about the size being too big.

On real cars with flappy paddles, there are often those who want bigger ones than the stock item

My Smart roadster-Coupé has tiny ones that turn with the wheel

But these are available from tuners

Similarly, the Polo GTI has tiny turn-with-the-wheel ones

But on cars where the paddles don't turn with the wheel, larger paddles make sense. This is a Maserati Gransport that I tried a couple of years ago – no problem with them

I've also driven a Nissan GT-R (R35) with fixed large paddles and also experienced no problems.

And I would love a Ferrari FF as a "practical" sportscar :)

When I added a deeply dished Lotus wheel to my G25, I extended the paddles to get them to the at my finger tips correct position

I've also done the same on the G27 rig I'm now building

I'm sure that once you get used to it you won't have any problems 👍

Now that's just plain kewl. Wasn't expecting such a detailed info and pic session. Very nice, Speedy!

Four words. What do you mean?.

Agree with stones on the pics too.

He means that with Fanatec's Porsche wheels, the paddles are little buttons on the back of the wheel. If you want bigger ones, Fanatec sells extensions. With the CSR wheels, judging by pictures, the paddles are big but are pushed back so you never touch them accidentally.

The CSR paddles seems to be about the same distance and size as the G27 paddles. (For me this is a good thing) Like you said the other wheels are nothing but buttons like the DFGT. You can slap those extensions on yet feels a little cheap.

The Granturgismo DPS-200's are adjustable, so you can move the paddles closer or farther from the wheel depending on what you like.

I use the Granturgismo paddles on my Logitech DFGT and have them adjusted for plenty of hand clearance. As for the Fanatec CSR, I just bought one a few weeks ago and the paddles are a big improvement over my Fanatec GT3 RS with the aluminum extensions. There is a much more affirmative click with the CSR and they leave plenty of space for your fingers. I can't say how they compare to the Logitech G27 because I've never driven one, but I have long fingers and have never once run into a clearance issue with any part of my hand on any of the three wheels I just mentioned.

I have the G27 and I really like the size and placement of the paddles. I don't move my hands around on the wheel a lot while driving. When I am forced to, such as making tight S turns, the only issue if have encountered is to get confused with up and down shift when the wheel is cranked 180.

If you want to use your DFGT these are available and are adjustable, but I'm not sure with your driving style if they will work for you either?

I've never had one issue with my G27 paddles hitting my fingers or anything like that. The Granturgismo paddles DFP 2.0 are quality for the DFGT though, and like Kevin said you can adjust them to give you more space.

I understand your point since I switch from the New Driving Force GT Steering Wheel which just had little stub on each side as hand shifters to the Logitech G27 which has larger and real hand shifter and now when I race I feel like I'm in real car cause of the feeling of shifters and it did feel weird at first but for me it was mental, just needed to get use to the new feeling of the shifters. Today not complaints from me, love the feeling.
