How come everyone loads faster?

When I'm in an online lobby, soon as the settings turn blue after host changes, I hit enter course. When it finally loads, there are already 4-5 racing the track. How are they loading faster than me? I have the game installed and all that jazz.

Cache shouldn't be an issue. I've played maybe 30 races total on a brand new ps3. But I upgraded my Internet and the load times are the same as before after tripling my download and upload.

Cache is an issue after every time I go online or remote race.:roll eyes: But why ask if you all the answers?:sly:

With this game, cache can be an issue often.

Additionally, it could be that the others have a faster connection, or might be closer to the host.

It's most likely the cache though. Give it a shot, it can't hurt.

Clearing your cache is BS! I haven't cleared my cache since around update 2.07 or 2.06! It runs a lot better when you don't. The first day might be a little slower but it'll pick up. When the game has things already cached, it helps load things quicker! Computers 101 folks, if things are in memory already, it'll get pulled up quicker! Also remember, the PS3 writes cached data to available hard drive space if your cache memory gets full 👍.

To the OP, could be that they have a more reliable connection, that's all, as long as you're not getting disconnected or lagging, consider yourself good 👍.

Also computer 101. The game doesn't store it correctly and causes the loading screen to hang, causing the player to have to quit the game to the XMB, therefore clearing it is required.

I do believe you have a magic PS3 and magic install of GT5, because everyone else's screws up.

I believe update 2.06 fixed that 👍. Don't knock it until you try it! I don't know anyone, personally, that clears it. I just did a comp that was nearly hours, full house, no lag or disconnections on my part, everyone had mics!

PS: My PS3 isn't magical, normal first gen slim (120gb) it's just properly maintained and clean! I treat this the same as I do my Laptop or any device I have! You mistreat it, it'll kick your behind!

Edit: symptoms you show is probably due to clearing it, it has to re-store everything causing slow loading and/or hands 👍.

Refurbished PS3 obtained in early December.

I never cleared the cache until I started having issues.

Since then I've had fewer issues.

GT5 is the only game that I own (roughly 30 games) that I have had to repeatedly quit due to hanging issues.

I do believe when I installed this game after getting the replacement PS3 that it was already on version 2.09.

If you want, I will do an experiment. I've had to quit to XMB once in the past week. I will refrain from doing so to test your hypothesis. I will be honest and let you know how it goes, if I have more than five hang ups, I will return to clearing it, otherwise I will leave it alone.

Clear cache and make sure that your internet is compatible with the host. When entering a desired room check that it has 4 stars or more and the bar/ping does not matter as much.

What is your ISP and what are some typical download and upload speeds that you get from them? You might not have the best of Internet connections and this is why it might be why people can load things faster than you.

I've heard a lot of people complain about hangs and disconnects that are with Virgin....

TimeWarner cable. I had 3 mb download and 256k upload, but called yesterday and had it upped to 10 mb down and 1 mb up. Speed test says I'm doing 9.82 down and 0.95 upload. I still don't notice a difference in the lobby loading times even after tripling my speeds. How do you clear cache?

Options > System Utilities (I think it's called, all the way at the bottom) > Clear Cache.

If you haven't cleared it before, it'll take a few minutes to do.

It'll be slower as everything has to be re-cached. Until everything is in it, it'll be the same as now.

I've noticed sometimes on tracks I've raced before it says installing in the bottom right corner. Is that being stored to cache?

I also noticed that my ps3 doesn't show the menu cutscene unless I let it sit for about a minute or so. Every video I've seen shows the cutscene showing up before the bottom icons load up. :/

Sorry to say I told you so! Also, what cut scenes? The GT logo?

EVERYONE, remember, everything you delete from memory has to be replaced! If you delete your cache, it has to replace that data! Wouldn't it make sense to keep it in there in the first place?

If I recall correctly I saw that after I installed the game to the HDD in the options menu. Whenever I loaded a new track for the first time it would pop up this little message. It doesn’t happen any more.

I do not think this has anything to do with the cache because I do clear the cache every once in a while – especially after an update.

I can’t say I agree with you completely Bluntified, but any time you try to do something online the system will look in the cache first before it tries to download the file it needs. If your cache huge – full of 2.08. 2.09 2.10 unneeded files it will slow the system down – as it searches through all of this looking for the needed files.

I'd have to disagree, I haven't cleared it in quite a few patches and everything is running snappy as ever.

I'll tell you why, files that no longer exist (have data) will still show up BUT will have a very very very small footprint, nothing significant. A computer can scan/search through a 1kb (for example) file, pretty quick. NOTHING ever gets deleted off a hard drive, it just gets compressed really small where you don't notice it.

It might be a little off topic or different scenario but, if you have windows, delete a file, look in the recycle bin and check the file size. They file you deleted will be compressed so small that you wont even notice it's presence on your hard drive.

I haven't cleared it yet. I won't be home for a couple of days to mess with it. But I'm talking about the cutscenes where you can select arcade mode, gt life, dlc, course maker etc. the background thing never loads unless I wait about a minute.

As far as the installing thing showing up. It shows up even on tracks I've raced before. Not every time but enough to where I notice it a couple of times and I've raced every track a few times. Also I get a black screen after I select drive with a gt logo. I can hear the car revving and I can brake and stuff but it takes a bit to show up. Happens about every 3 out of 7-8 races.

I'm going to reformat my hdd when I get home tomorrow and re install everything. I had an error when installing and it may have caused a problem. Not like its gonna hurt to try :p

So I reformatted my hard drive and did a fresh install. Now everything is working as it should. Background video on the main menu is loading quick, races online are loading quick and so is everything else. I remember when I installed the first time my ps froze when doing the install from disk.

Update: It's been a week since I stopped clearing my cache on a regular basis. There may be something to this. A cache should be generally a good thing, unless it has corrupted data.

I've only had one issue since I stopped clearing it and it wasn't a total freeze, it was just a black screen while my car was doing its rolling start. It did clear up after a couple of seconds and required be to restart the lap again (practice mode).

Oddly, it was on a track that I had been re-running all day with a car that I had been driving for about an hour. It should have had all of that info ready to go, but for some reason it didn't. I think there must be a different cause of those black screens.

I also wonder why the cursor is locked during menu changes, or why the damned menus take so damned long when they are just menus. Who knows?

Anyway, I said that I'd be honest about it. I haven't had a total freeze up yet, but I also haven't noticed a really big change in loading time either.

Thanks for being honest :) I had the black screen with the car moving happen to me just about every race. Hasn't happened since I reformatted thank goodness. It's irritating lol

Good to hear.

I'm still getting the black screen with the rolling starts. Can hear the accelerator being pressed and me hitting walls, but no image. Just a black screen with the gt5 logo in the bottom right. It comes on after about 10 seconds and I'm out of the pit and usually into a wall. Anyone know about this?
