How difficult is MGS4 and how long would it take an average gamer to complete?

Just curious like if there are different optional difficulty levels you can choose from and how many hours a different difficulty level may add unto the game? I am considering it and sometimes if a game is too difficult I get extremely impatient (working on that) and get fed up with the game and quit it. :nervous:

Depending on your approach and how much of the game you go through (especially if you watch the movie sequences) you can get your game completed in under 4 hours to up to 40 hours.

The difficulty doesn't really make the difference so much as if you decide to go through stealth or all guns blazing. Also depends if you are willing to avoid some fights that occur at buildings that you don't need to go into but do pass in the game.

MGS4 does have a range of difficulty levels, spanning easy (get the cat to do it - honestly it is that easy) through to extreme (and that one does live up to its name). As such it does cater for all types.

In regard to how long it takes to play, as said that is very much up to you, but I would always suggest taking your time with it, its most certainly worth it.

I just rented this last night and played for about 2 hours. Its quite easy to just pick up and play. As mentioned you can sneak around to avoid fights or run and gun. I have tried a little of both. You can also skip the cinemas if you want.

Very true, the length of time you send playing depends largely how you play. Currently I'm playing through as a hooded sniper (Altair costume + Mosin Nagant + M4 Custom with scope and silencer but mainly used for buildings). Difficulty does effect the amount of time it takes, by effecting how easy it is to run and gun. Harder difficultys make firefights more difficult and longer. However the most skill players will still get through pretty quick if they skip the scenes.

First run, Hard mode (there is harder mode) I took my time and EXACT 24 hours, not a minute later, not a minute sooner ;)

The only think I didnt like was respawning enemies. I hate that in games.

I usually don't like it much either, but in MGS4 it does serve a valuable purpose. The game feels more like a war zone with it, which helps with the feel of a real combat situation. Plus, it doesn't happen that often, and it's never 100% against you. It happens in areas where there are other enemies (to them, allies to you if you want them to be) to combat them. In addition to all that, the respawn stops after you reach a certain point. Not only that, but it could aid you in getting a lot of credits if you stand around one of these respawn areas and kill everyone there and collect all the dropped rifles which earns you a lot depending on what they're dropping.

It took me around 25 hours on the normal setting. I watched every movie and loved it. I wish I would have bumped it up 1 difficulty level, it could have been a little harder just so the game would have taken a little longer. I really didn't want it to end. It was easily my favorite single player shooter ever. If you are a metal gear fan you should absolutely love this game. But if you say you are impatient you will probably not watch the movies and lose alot of the experience. To me the movies were the best I have ever seen in a game. I couldn't wait to see the next one. Only a couple of times did a cut scene drag on. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

I was the same way bevo, i was gutted that it seemed so short first time even though it wasn't a lightning fast play through (about 12 hours). All the scenes helps you understand why you're there, immerses you (perhaps not fans of the series, but i am one so it was great). I do wish there was more costumes though, like a ghillie suit or something would be cool.

I was more interested in the story and the experience than anything else, so I played through on Easy, never had any real problems. Took 18-20 hours.

Crank it up to extreme, the game plays much much more immersive. Mainly because you really have to work to sneak. I'd say it's like the realistic difficulty, you can't rely on octocamo and can easily be heard when close. It is difficult though, so maybe just play the hardest difficulty you can handle, no need to feel bad if you can't do extreme, it really lives up to it's name.

Oh I hate that with a passion! (haven't played MGS4 yet)

It's not the enemy appearing out of nowhere in your face or right behind you kind of respawn though (*cough* Rainbow Six Vegas 1 Terrorist Hunt) they just keep coming over a wall or through a door or whatever. It's not great but the battles would be short without it.

the game's difficulty is really varied. you can make it really easy or when u pass the game one time extremely difficulty. and with a lot of weaponry you can say that if u start the game in the normal difficulty (like me) you'll finish the game in like 12-17 hours with all the cutscenes. If you skip them you'll still have like 7-8 hours of gameplay pretty easily.

But thats my case!! I know people that took them over 30 hours to finish the game!! It all depends on the way you play the game

I am on my 12th hour and I just started the 5th Mission. I have been running and gunning as much as possible.

Yeah, I hate that with a passion too.

It isn't all that long, and if you complete it on the easier difficulties, the hardest shouldn't really be that bad once you know what to do.
