How do i back up a save game?

So I want to back up a few games, not just GT5. but every time I try to copy to the USB drive there is no icon on the PS3 (in the USB device folder) for the saved game. when i put the USB in my computer, some PS3 save game stuff is there. I just dont get how to access it again of my USB should the PS fail and i need to reload it? im really lost, and i cant find the answers i want anywhere.

To copy.

1) Insert usb flash drive.
2) Go to Game - Saved Data Utility - Folder - Save Data - Triangle - Copy - Extarnal USB - X

To restore.
1) Insert usb flash drive.
2) Go to Game - Saved Data Utility - External USB - Save Data - Triangle - Copy
