How do I stop burning up my tires so fast

OK, I'm a newb to GT5. Played all the rest before. I dont remember ever going through racing hard tires so fast. I love my Lambo but I ruin tires in 2-3 laps on almost every course. I can't even beat Expert "All-Stars" right now though I am much faster than the competition cause my tires are smoking so bad I can hardly even see the car halfway through the race. I seem to fall from first place to barely taking 5th cause of the tires. Pitting is not an option. Please take pity on my inexperience and offer me some tips on how to set up my ride so I don't go through tires so bad.
 
Brake fairly early, keep throttle control through the corners and then you can go faster out of the corner without wearing the tires to quickly.

Dont slam the brakes in last moment and go sideways into the corner. :)
 
Unless you're using some crazy camber/toe settings it's going to be a driver mod. Learn to drive smoother-slow in fast out. Brake earlier and in a straight line. Diving into the corners late will wear them out faster for sure. I have to say I've never had a problem with tire wear in offline. Watch your tire wear indicator and try to keep the tires out of the red. Race hards/mediums wear better too. Good luck.

If you are a noob like you say, then maybe you should try some aids until you get the hang of it.
 
In addition to the above, make sure you have smoother inputs. Ease into them rather than putting it off till the last minute and going the full monty all at once.
 
If your on DS3 use low sensitivity and lower your brake strength, softer settings on the suspension will also help.
 
Are there any A-Spec races that have tire wear enabled besides the enduros? The only car I remember being able to overheat the tires on in no-wear races was the FGT. While I do drive somewhat conservatively, I have to wonder if the OP is either driving with toggle switches for gas and brake or at least using the e-brake in place of the brake. Unless maybe the e-brake button is stuck on?

Or maybe it's a Bob posting?

If this is legit of course, the advice given is sound. Traction control and ABS would be a good idea to help come to terms with it. When wear is enabled, racing slick tires do not last nearly as long as they used to in the old games.
 
If using a DS3, are you using the default controller settings?

Mainly X for throttle?

I would consider changing your throttle & brake to something else.

I use L2 for brake and R2 for throttle. Makes it a little smoother in acceleration/deceleration. Some people use one of the analog sticks.

In a recent update to GT5 (I believe it's the Spec 2.0 update), Polyphony Digital decided to boost how fast all the tyres wear out to make it more realistic and true to life. They also reduced grip on both Low and Real grip settings to make it more realistic too. No matter how you drive, it won't be possible for you to wear out the tires as slowly before the Spec 2.0 update.

The only piece of advice I can give to you for wearing out your tyres out much more slowly is to have a more relaxed/calm driving style instead. Go easy on the brakes and especially the acceleration. You will put less pressure on the tyres, which means they wear out more slower. Increasing camber a little will also reduce the speed of tyre wearing, as less of the tyre itself is in contact with the road (but when cornering, the outside tyre will straighten out, giving more grip but wearing out a little faster).

Thanks for all the help. My worst fear has been confirmed. I was hoping the settings were wrong. Guess it really is my driving. Of course, I guess i can reduce my brake level from 10 front and back as well.
 
Hey man you're not the only one that has this problem. I too can't stop my tires from burning up and I know it's my driving style. In my league races the other drivers can make their tires last at least 1 to 2 more laps than I can, which is huge in hour long races. I feel that all these months of driving with the wheel and I still have not reached my true potential lol. If the day ever comes when I learn to be smooth on the track, watch out! lol
 
I know in some cars it ruins driving pleasure, but put Traction Control on 1 and the tyres last a great deal longer. Seeing as you're a self-confessed noob, using traction control is excusable.

Also, KILL oversteer. I'm not saying understeer's good, infact it ruins the driving experience, but when the back steps out, be sure to control it. And never use full power coning out of corners/brake too hard coming towards corners.

And as Infinital-NG mentioned, use the analog sticks to accelerate, brake and steer.

If this isn't enough, perhaps reconsider which tyres you use.

Pffft... I suggest revising the car setup, as a couple of changes to suspension settings can mean the difference to losing or gaining 2 or so extra laps around a track with the tyre wear turned on.
 
I suggest you use the aids and change to using the joysticks on the DS3 rather than the buttons. While I know that some people drive with the buttons I feel the joysticks offer more sensitivity.

If he's a "noob" I'm pretty sure he's not going to know the ins and outs of tuning, so maybe just driving smoother is the easiest and best option for him.
