Hi everybody....

I really want to learn how to tune so need a place to start....I have read some of the guides but not finding them too helpful atm as most assume some knowledge of tuning.

I am trying to tune a Nissan mm-R on Tsukuba for a race on Sunday so what I would like it know to start with is...

How do I test acceleration?.

Literally how do you do it???

1. Which track is best to use to test over 0-400, 0-600, 0-1000 etc?
2. How do I access the information so I can assess the performance of the car?

An idiots step by step guide to testing acceleration would be ideal!!

Any tips on maximising acceleration (with possible side effects) would also be very nice.

Cheers DJ :)

Go to Indy Super Speedway.
Accelerate off the line as fast as you can.
Complete your lap, so that you have a ghost replay.
Make some changes to the car.
Enter the track and accelerate off the line as fast as you can.
If your ghost pulls away from you, urdoinitwrong.
If you pull away from the ghost, then you're going in the right direction.
Each time you have the best acceleration, complete the lap, to update the ghost replay, so that you have the most recent ghost to compare to.

My totally unscientific method is to run a race (A-spec or Seasonal) with a fairly long straight and run it repeatedly. I make note of my top speed attained at the braking point. Running repeatedly to establish consistency I can then see if adjustments to my tune affect that. Unless your drag racing acceleration from 50 mph to max speed for a given course is what I find most important.

What Adrenaline said. Unfortunately, there's no way in GT5 to measure 0-400m etc.

The best way to increase acceleration is horsepower! Sorry for stating the obvious, but most of the time it is far better to tune your suspension etc to go fast around corners, rather than trying to get slightly better straight line traction.

Hope this helps.

But in case of too much power, you need to resolve how to pass this power to the ground without lost or insane reactions. For this it's interesting to test acceleration. When i have this problem i try to resolve with LSD / gear box (not too short for the 1&2) /softer suspension rear / allowing in part mass transfer on this same suspensions.
I've tune one car for drag in the S7 tunel and here it's a good test to apply all this, like any track with a good visual mark on the ground. But you need a chronometer.
For a very powerfull road car or race car with few grip (sauber mercedes for ex) and only in this case, i think it's important to take care of this side of the tune. But you have to deal with all the rest. It's just a part and not the most important. You can't prejudicate the rest of the tune thinking about accleration.(Only for drag)
It's my opinion, good day.

Yes, genericly speaking, soft suspension and 1st gear long enough helps you launch better. The weight transfer to the rear wheels (rwd) is very crucial. Thats why i always tune my suspension first beacuse, depending on how you change your suspension settings, the car will either gain more traction or not.

We dont have a time system, but one thing you can do is running auto trans (gear change at the same rpm) and then save the replay, and take the time by a stop watch. It would be really hard though, because you can make extreme changes, and to a certain distance, you may only be like 0,5 seconds faster, which is very much in drag racing by the way......

Theoreticly speaking, shorter gears = faster acceleration, but first make sure you dont spin out to much in first gear. How do i know that? Well, peak torque * gear ratio * final gear = output torque to the wheels, the higher number you get, the faster acceleration i suppose.

How do i set the first gear? Well, if your tires are spinning and you are hittning the rev limiter continiously, your first gear is to long. When your tires are spinning in first gear, try to aim, so that the rpm is like 500rpm below max rpm. Hard to describe...:indiff: But thats a way i have found out works pretty well on high hp rwd cars.

* While your tires are spinning in first gear, make sure you dont hit the rev limiter continiously * 👍

Ok guys...you lost me...but thanks for the feedback...I'm am slowly getting that you have to keep trying stuff and see if it works.....there are no quick fixes..:)

Hi Praiano, your post has good tips about improving traction for overpowered monsters.

But the OP is tuning a Nissan mm-R, I doubt the 230 bhp (or less) will be much trouble if he's running decent tyres!

All the best,
Simon

Hahaha. sorry didn't see this part. Nissan mm ??? Just see an only way, jumping in his seat like go-kart........with a swiss chronometer in your hand of course...
No joke, i really dont see how you can increase the accel of this car. Really . Brake early just a few and accelerate early staying on the perfect line without any extra force...., like a feather....
Good night.
