How do people not know how to co-op race after all these years?!

Seriously, this is a bit of a rant, but been trying to do the trial this weekend and every single race when I in a lead or trying to overtake top spots to get in a lead (to get ahead of AI mind you or even coming in from farther down the leaderboard), I always get blocked by actual player. And it's not just breaking and all in good fun, but straight up slamming me out of bounds etc so I drop from 2/3 into last spot more often than not and at that point having whole race kind of screwed I let autopilot take over (mainly cause I am short on temper).

I personally like to be cautious driver and other than light taps and all always try to find a safe way around, etc. I am not best player, but I am decent enough, I think. So what gives, guys and gals? Is playing for 15mins in championship not enough fun for you? No focus on winning etc? Aren't we all doing trial to get points for season? Is 2nd/3rd spot more important than getting extra 600 points (and knocking 600 of red teams scoreboard)?

I am seriously wondering what goes through your heads, so this is obviously addressed to those who are not only consistent in that game style, but thrive on it. This isn't head to head, you don't get extra points for higher placement and you usually cost the whole team championship. Why? As I am typing this an attempt at trail #5 failed exactly due to this same behavior...

I've been running various ferraris through the trial and my experience is that for the 2 circuits, more than half the players have little control over their cars or the tunes they are using.

Most would pick fast tunes for the 1st track and floor it through corners with little regard for others but that's fine since it kind of works as speed conquers that track easily, just annoying when you get sideswiped or punted which slows you down. Then they would lose it in the circuits, it's just a lot of hitting the walls on corners.

Ultimately, it is more of a control issue and on the unintentional side although it's making this week's trial rough if you can't get ahead of them fast enough.

I pretty much don’t try to pass teammates on straightaways and almost always let them pass me until and wait until they wreck and are completely out of the way before I pass because of this. I don’t know if they think I’m an AI car or if they want the tiny bit of extra experience points you earn from finishing higher that badly or what the deal is but I feel you.

That's the problem mate, there is nothing in their heads to begin with.

I get that some people want to be sympathetic, understanding, don't want to come across as harsh/critical/insulting etc but let's just tell it like it is, anyone who does have something working upstairs while playing simply doesn't behave like that.

I'm glad I am not the only one feeling this way. Just as update I never did nab those 10 points last season, but this season was a breeze. Much easier to corner when everyone slides on gravel grass and you have right tune to just pass them on the inside... I am sure this will not be the case all the time, but it's like some of you guys say, not everyone understands how to team race (or race in general LOL), my worry is some of these ass hats will driver like that out in the real world as well haha

not everyone understands how to team race
It's main character syndrome at work.

They think second is first loser, and have no grasp of the concept that every place has points for your team and you only win by beating the opponents not your team-mates.

Plus people get pissy at being hit, often blaming the first person they see afterwards when - especially early on in a race - it could be that even the person who actually hit them was hit into them by someone who had been hit into them.

You know, it's funny you mention it now. I also play Rematch with bud of mine (it's like arcade footy that play more like rocket league than anything else LOL) and we always get so mad at people that instead of passing to teammate to score and either tie or win in the last few second, they shoot right at goalie and mess up that one, possibly last chance. He always tells me the same thing too - it's the hero syndrome, everyone wants to be first, but I tell you we have won more games than we can count, but passing to each other rather than giving it 50-50 shot. Optics are very important and I feel like most folks that doesn't apply to video games for some reason..
