People throw around the term "AAA" to refer to big budget, high sales games but it seems to vary between each person. One person will say COD and BF3 are AAA but mario kart isnt. Even though a crap ton of people play Mario kart. So, what is your definition of a triple A game?

I was under the impression that the term AAA referred to large budget titles that are highly anticipated by even casual gamers. Games like GTA, COD etc fall into this.

Personally, my gaming time is getting slightly limited, so I tend to only buy titles I know I'll like, or someone I really trust recommends to me.

For example, soon I'll buy Batman AC and TES V Skyrim.

Ok so, two questions then. What amount is a big budget? How do you measure casual gamer interest? Preorders? Sales? Media coverage? Number of reviews? Market share?

Can this stuff be applied to older consoles?
