Wasn't exactly sure where to post this, but this seems the most likely spot to me. The mods can place it where they see fit, as long as I can find it...lol.

I was wondering how people here play GT. Do they play mostly with the origonal PS style controlers or the wheel setup? For those who have moved to the wheel setup, how long did it take to get used to it?

Also, do you play with automatic shifting or go for the manual? Why do you play the way you do (auto or manual)?

I think it comes down to realism. I started on controller years ago but ever since I played Hard Drivin back in the 80s while in college I wanted a realistic driving experience in my home. Now I have that and it's getting better. Immersion is where it's at and I'd gather lots of people here are looking for that. Plus it's just flat out more fun. :)

I played the first 4 GT's with a controller and then picked up a Driving Force Pro when GT5P came out.
I sat in a video rocker chair

and attached the wheel to an old broken kitchen table chair that looks similar to this

The backrest of the chair was broken off. The whole thing was more comfortable than you would imagine.

Eventually I moved to a wheelstand pro, then wheelstand pro with G27, and now T500+TH8RS on a Takuma Sato Playseat GT. I'm hoping to add a Buttkicker gamer 2 whenever it is available again.

I always drive manual now, but didn't start until around March of last year. It is more immersive and I'm also faster and have better control of the car with it.

I play with a G27 on a desk, sat in a foldable desk chair (not too bad), im considering buying a playseat office chair, also I play manual because its way more fun in my opinion.

GT3 RS user here.
Got it on Oct 6th.
Took me about 2 months to master the wheel and about 3 days to get used to it.
Manual, no aids.
Would never come back to sixaxis.

If you are debating going from a controller to a wheel to become faster, I wouldn't bother, you can be very fast with a controller.

But if you are looking for a better experience, get a nice wheel and pedals. After you play for a little while with a nice setup if you try to go back to a controller you will hate how numb and lifeless it feels.

I play with a DS3, and it gets really boring. That's why I haven't bothered putting GT5 in since before Christmas.

This.

Wow, Zoology, that is quit the setup. Mind if I ask what that cost ya all together as it all shows in the pic? Minus the TV and consule, of course. I really liike the shifters on the wheel and the fact that you even have a clutch. Must feel like you're driving an actual high-end car.

Thanks for the info guys. Gonna try switching to manual and learn that aspect of racing. Eventually I'll move to the whel setup.

I want to say $420 shipped (for wheels and pedals). I could be off. I picked up the Playseat used from a GTP member for $250 then threw on a suede seat and painted the frame.

what tv stand is that? And is the Kinect worth the setup?

I built it. I can send you measurements if you would like. It is oak painted in flat black with 3M Di-Noc carbon fiber on the shelving. I want to say it was around $40 in timber and $10-15 for paint. I had the Home Depot (or maybe it was Lowes?) guys cut it for me. Then I just fit everything together at home.

Kinect is definitely worth the investment. Even if it is just for Forza. It brings a new level of immersion when you are actually controlling the movement of the cockpit camera. Of course now that Forza has introduced Kinect head-tracking more developers will follow suit.

You guys lost me a bit here. Tell me more about this whole cockpit setup and head tracking thing. When you say cockpit setup, are you refering to the wheel/seat/pedals? Or is it something altogether different?
